For over five decades, BIT Mesra (located 16 kms from Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand) has been engaged in nurturing minds through a rich heritage of academic excellence. A bustling hub of student activities, the beautiful green campus has been a second-home to thousands of students in their journey for their 3-dimensional growth and prosperity.

 Established in 1955 by visionary-industrialist Mr. B.M. Birla, it is today one of the premier engineering destinations in India. The Institute attained the status of a Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, in 1986. Rules For Change Branch

_There is a provision for branch change (B.Tech 2nd year students (3rd semester)) subject to availability of seats and considering the following criteria:

_Maximum 10% of the existing students of any discipline/branch shall be considered to change the discipline/branch purely on performance merit basis.

_Students who have completed all the examinations of the first two semesters in the first attempt and have minimum CGPA as under, shall be considered for such branch sliding.

_
    1. General Category/EWS/OBC/EBC – 8.0 and above
    2. _SC/ST category -  7.0 and above

Campus Recruitment Program 2021-22

Overview

Since 1955, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, growing by leaps and bounds. The institute has not only established itself as a forerunner in technical education but has also left deep imprints of its presence in the country and society. The pool of talent and aspirations that the students carry along makes BIT Mesra one of the most sought-after institutes in India. The high expectations that the industry holds from BIT Mesra is a direct reflection of the high benchmarks of excellence set by its students. First and foremost, we would like to thank our recruiters for continuing to demonstrate their faith in BIT Mesra. We hope to build stronger relationships with our recruiters and continue to take BIT Mesra to greater heights.

Total number of recruiters visited BIT Mesra in 2021-22 was 235, which has generated 1257 numbers of Full Time Employments (including all Campuses) and 564 numbers of Internship offers across different sectors of the industry. Major recruiters ranging from Investment Banks to Analytics & Consulting, Automobile to Heavy Engineering and Infrastructure, IT Product to IT Services etc visited the campus for placement.

85 companies have visited BIT Mesra for the first time this year and the recruiters who visited last year for the first time have continued this year and the process yielded satisfactory results. Several meritorious students have received multiple offers.

The B.E./ B.Tech. students of Mesra Campus with a total batch strength of 654 and a total of 629 eligible students, received a total of 602 offers and 531 students have already been placed. Considering the percentage placement of eligible students, 84% students from B.E./ B.Tech.  Computer Science, 91% from B.E./ B.Tech.  Electronics & Communication 90% from B.E./ B.Tech.  Information Technology, 95% of the B.E./ B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering, 79% of B.E./ B.Tech. Production Engineering and 92% of B.E./ B.Tech.  Electrical Engineering students got offers from different sectors. Likewise, 84%, 79%, 71%, 62% & 80% of students from Chemical, Chemical & Polymer, Civil and Bio-Engineering respectively have got placed.  

Industry And Alumni Relations

Industry and Alumni Relations

The institute organizes alumni reunion for different batches in the campus. After almost 2 years due to the pandemic, alumni reunion of the batch of 1996 – 2000 was organized in the campus during 24th – 27th March 2022. Batch of 1997 – 2001 revived their golden time spent at the institute by visiting the campus on 10th – 11th June 2022.

Alumni portal www.alumni.bitmesra.ac.in which was launched in February 2020 have got very good response. This platform offers amazing features that enables alumni to stay connected with their college and friends as well as explore professional opportunities. Presently, the institute has its own data bank of about 40000+ registered alumni in the portal. The portal has become a useful tool for engaging the alumni across the world.

The institute have also registered alumni association in the name of BITMAA (Birla Institute of Technology Mesra Alumni Association) to strengthen the relation and acting as an apex body for alumni engagement and outreach. All the chapters across the globe are having their representations in BITMAA.The PAN card and Bank Account is also operational. The process to apply for 12A and 80G certificate is under process.  

With the support of alumni members in the US, students of undergraduate engineering program (6th Semester) are sent to reputed US universities during the summers under the Immersive Summer Research Experience (ISRE) program. In 2019, seventeen (15) students were sent in institutes like Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh and Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. During 2020 and 2021, because of the pandemic, the programme has been offered online and 2 students in 2020 and 10 students in 2021 got benefitted through the same. In 2022, 9 students visited Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago and 2 students pursued their research from IIT Chicago in online mode. 2 students were sent to North-Eastern University, Boston to pursue their summer research. Apart from this, 2 students preferred doing their research under online mode from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. In total 15 students have been benefited under ISRE program in the year 2022.

Our alumni members also support us in Faculty Research programs with an objective of exposing our faculty members to contemporary research practices in the US. To start with, Dr. Shiva Kumar from EEE Department shall be visiting North-Eastern University, Boston this September for a period of 4 months with full funding.

Institute celebrated its Foundation Day on 14th and 15th July 2022. This is an annual event introduced with the objective of reaching out to our alumni members spread across the globe in the corporate sector as well as in academics. Distinguished Alumni Awards were conferred to our alumni under 6 different categories, who have made us proud in India and abroad by way of their contribution. 

Currently, the alumni members have come forward to support the students at the institute by offering mentorship in their domain of expertise. This mentorship is being offered by our esteemed alumni across the globe who are well settled in academia or industry in order to train the students and make them industry ready.

Annual Industry Academia Symposium is organized with experts from Industry and academics with students to address employment and employability enhancement related issues. Owing to pandemic, the activity was stopped for last two years, but this year, we are again organizing it during the month of November. 

Academic and Research Collaboration with industry and technical institutes in India and abroad is also arranged by the institute.

To impart and share knowledge, we regularly organise webinars / lectures of top researchers and industry experts. Between July 2021 till date, as many as 10 webinars / lectures have been organised for enhancing the learning experience of students and faculty members on contemporary and emerging technological issues.

Recreational/Extra Curricular activities

The Institute has comprehensive facilities for outdoor sports and games. BIT hosts several extracurricular activities, necessary for overall healthy development of young mind. It has a beautiful sports complex with a modern stadium for track courts and field events. Well-equipped gymnasiums with modern multi-gym facilities are available. Further, a spacious new indoor badminton stadium, fine grounds and courts for football, hockey, cricket, kabaddi, kho-kho, basketball, tennis, volleyball, badminton, etc. are available. In addition, we have a well-trained coach and guide to support and encourage sports activities for the students.

There are large number of Student Societies and Clubs, which supports students to nurture their hobbies and other creative talents for relaxation and entertainment. These Societies and Clubs include:

Dramatics Society, UNESCO Club, News and Publication Society (NAPS), Bhartiya Sahitya Parishad (BSP), Highlanders Adventure Club (HAC), Amateur Radio Society (ARS), Music Club, Fine Arts Society, Photographic Society, Students Chapter of the Institute of Engineers (IE), Students Chapter of IEEE, Students Chapter of IEE, SPIC-MACAY, Nature Club, Audio Visual Educational Club (AVEC) and Indian Association of College Going Scientists (IACGS)

Drama competitions, music competitions and annual student festivals (ANKUR, BITOTSAV), are conducted on a regular basis. Several traditional festivals like Saraswati Puja and Viswakarma Puja are also celebrated with great devotion on campus. The students participate and organize "Guru ka Langar" yearly on the occasion of the birthday of Guru Govind Singh.

 The various Institute’s teams have regularly participate on several student festivals and competitions across all over the country, including those held at IT-BHU, various IIT’s, BITS Pilani, ISM Dhanbad, Rotary International, etc. BIT students were always appreciated and noticed by the national organizing society from their credible performance and they bagged several awards in past on various events including music, drama, fine arts, literary etc.

 The Institute has hosted various Inter-University meets and tournaments at the National and Zonal levels in athletics, tennis, basketball, badminton, volleyball, football and hockey. The Institute’s teams also visit other Universities to participate in such tournaments. It is worth mentioning that our students have won laurels at national and International events too.

Location and Accessibility

Birla Institute of Technology is located in a campus at Mesra, about 17 kilometers from Ranchi Railway Station, 25 kilometers from Ranchi Airport, 27 kilometers from Hatia Railway Station. Both Taxi and Autorickshaw are available from Ranchi/Hatia Railway/Bus Station/ Airport to BIT Mesra.
