About the Institute

National Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand is one among the ten newly sanctioned NITs in 2009. It came into existence in 2010. The Institute is fully funded by Government of India under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), New Delhi. The Institute is ranked 131 in NIRF ranking 2022 and is recognized in the band "PROMISING" under the category "Institute of National Importance & Central Universities/CFTs (Technical)" in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievement (ARIIA) 2021.
The Srinagar campus of NIT Uttarakhand is situated in the beautiful valley of Srinagar (Garhwal) at Government Polytechnic. The Institute’s campus houses Department of Sciences and Humanities, Class Rooms, Library, Dispensary, Server Room, Auditorium, Playground and Hostels, Engineering Departments and Administrative offices and one cricket ground. The Sumari campus of NIT Uttarakhand is being built  at village Sumari. New laboratories in various Departments have been constructed with advanced facilities. The Institute offers full time B. Tech, M.Tech and PhD Program in Science and Humanities, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering.

Students (except First Year) may opt out of Mess at the beginning of any month; however balance Mess Advance shall be refunded at the end of semester and only after no dues certificate. Seat Rent, Mess fee Advance and Electricity and Water Charges are to be paid separately and will not be adjusted against amount paid to CSAB. Once the hostel facility is availed, the Seat Rent and Electricity and Water Charges will not be refunded after cancellation.

Academic Structure

NIT Uttarakhand offers B.Tech, M.Tech and a Ph.D. programmes. The Institute is conducting B. Tech. programmes in five different branches with an intake of 36 students in each branch. Following are the branches for B.Tech courses:

The academic structure of the Institute has many salient features:

 35 % courses are elective

 Freedom to choose elective courses per semester

 Freedom to choose sequence of courses

 Freedom to complete programme in VII semesters and going to industry for one semester internship

Rules For Change Branch

Program change at the end of first year (UG Only).

The following regulations apply for change of program at the end of first year, i.e. end of the 2nd semester. 

(a) A student is eligible to apply for change of discipline at the end of first year only, provided he/she satisfies the following criteria:

 i. CGPA: = 7.50

ii. Earned credits at the end of first academic session ≥ 40 

(b) Change of the discipline will be permitted strictly in the order of merit as determined by their CGPA at the end of first year subject to the limitation that the actual number of students in the third semester in the discipline to which the transfer is to be made, should not exceed the sanctioned strength. 

(c) For a student with CGPA 9.5 or more, even if a vacancy does not exist, he/she will be permitted to change provided the strength in the discipline to which the change is being sought does not exceed by 5% of the approved strength.

The primary focus of the Institute has always been on facilitating quality education. Facilities

Medical Facility – Dispensary and medical insurance is provided by the Institute. In case of any emergency, Institute Ambulance is also provided to students for 24 hours.

Gymnasium - The institute has a Gymnasium equipped with necessary facilities to maintain health of students.

Power Back-up - The whole campus is under complete power back-up (4×30 kVA DG sets).

Internet Facility - The whole campus is equipped with Wi-Fi facility with High-Speed internet connection.

Institute Mess - Special care is taken to provide clean and hygienic surrounding in the premises of the mess. Food quality and water purity is checked regularly by concerned authorities from time to time.

Conference Hall - The Institute has a Conference Hall having capacity of 70 peoples. It is used for conducting meetings, seminars, workshops, etc.

Book Bank Facility - The Library houses a total collection of over 33,500 printed books (with 6000 titles) which includes Text Books and Reference Books in different subjects.

ATM - An ATM of SBI is installed in the Polytechnic campus of the Institute.

Canteen - The canteen of the institute serves cafeteria items at a reasonable price.

Auditorium - The institute has a Multi-purpose auditorium having capacity of 300 persons that is used for seminars, workshops, screening movies, and many more.

Open Air Theater - An open air theater is established in the ITI campus of the Institute which hoisted various major events of Cliffesto.

Student Life at Institute

The institute provides a homely environment for students. The institute has adopted a principle of "Homes away from Home". Hostels have been provided for the students with all the necessary facilities. The institute provides accommodation facility for more than 800 students in the campus. Wi-Fi facility is provided in the hostel for Internet access. There is a separate hostel for girls. Matron/Nurse stays in girls’ hostel for 24 hours.

There are various indoor and outdoor sports facilities, such as, Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Cricket, Table–Tennis, Chess, Carom, gymnasium and many more. Sports arena has well-equipped facilities so that the students can practice at night also. Institute has the facility of adventurous sports activities like ice skiing at Auli and rafting. Sports meet, Departmental & Institutional gathering are the mega sports festival in our institute.

Training & Placement

NIT Uttarakhand has successfully place 91 of its students through virtual campus placement drive for the academic year 2021-22. A total of 100 companies were a part of this virtual recruitment process including MNCs, and more than twenty-five companies visited for M-Tech.

Students from Computer Science and Engineering received the highest number of offers, followed by Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. The average salary offered to students increased to ₹ 10 Lakh Per Annum (LPA) during 2021-22 compared to ₹ 6 LPA in the preceding year (i.e., an increment of 35% in the average annual placement package).

The median for placement has also increased from ₹ 6.5 LPA to ₹8 LPA, and the highest package from ₹19 LPA to ₹34 LPA. Moreover, 05 students got placed above the package of ₹20 LPA, and 40 students lay between ₹10 LPA and ₹20 LPA during this placement session. During the placement session 2021-22, 91 out of 128 students were selected, i.e., around 75 % of the students were placed. Highest package of ₹ 34 LPA was offered by Adobe to Ms. Saumya Agarwal, B. Tech. Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). Mr. Vedant Mamgain B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) received an internship offer of ₹ 2.62 lakh per month and Mr. Deepanshu Taneja, B. Tech.  Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) received an internship offer of ₹ 01 lakh per month. More than 30 students received an internship offer from different companies.

Industry And Alumni Relations

The office of Alumni Affairs at NIT, Uttarakhand (NITUK) provide a forum that encourage and promote interaction and networking among alumni of Institute and Alma Mater. We invite the alumni for career guidance and counselling to undergraduate and postgraduate students through Alumni Talk Series. Alumni Meets are organized every year to re-establish the connection with our alumni and making a stronger bond with the Institute. The Alumni Association of NITUK is connecting the alumni with NITUK, emotionally, financially and provides a platform of personal growth.

Industry-Institute Interaction

The major objective of Industry-institute interaction is to develop a bond between Industry and Academia for mutual benefit and growth of industries as well as institutions. To prepare engineering graduates ready for the jobs in industries, it is necessary to know the requirements of the industries through industry-institute interaction. The Industry-Institute Interaction provides the platform to understand the best engineering practices, latest technological advancement, promote industrial experts to patriciate in curriculum design and exposure to engineering students for industrial atmosphere. To promote Industry-Institute Interaction, following objectives are being undertaken: 

•                Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute and Industries. 

•                Invite Industries to establish chair professor at NIT, Uttarakhand. 

•                Participation of Industry experts in curriculum design. 

•                Organizing Workshops, Conferences and training program with Joint collaboration with Industries. 

•                B.Tech. Projects and M.Tech. dissertation work in industries under joint guidance of the faculty and experts from the 
                 Industry. 

•                Consultancy and Industrial testing by the faculty to Industry. 

•                Internship and Practical training of students in Industries. 

•                Encourage industry executives and practicing engineers to visit the institution for delivering expert lectures on best 
                  engineering practices, technological advancement and experiences. 

•                Visit of Industry experts and engineers to the Institute for seeing research work and laboratories. 

•                Invite Industries to establish research laboratories in emerging area of technology for mutual benefits. 

•                Invite Industry Professionals to visit campus and deliver 1, 2 & 3 credit course, which are typically 10-12, 20-24 or 32-36 
                 hours of engagement of students which can be done on weekends depending upon Availability. 

•                Invite the Industries to establish centres of advance technologies for professional of industries leading to 

                  PG/Ph.D. Program for their Employees. 

•              Invite Industry to engage students of NIT Uttarakhand as intern for 2 to 6 months on job training.

Recreational/Extra Curricular activities

A taste for Music, Dance, Movies, Photography, Creative writing, Astronomy, Cycling and Mountaineering, Literary, Drama is inculcated in students through different clubs. This helps in blooming the personality of the students.

The Council of student activities provides students of NIT Uttarakhand opportunities for involvement, leadership experience and the ability to create fun and exciting programs that enhance the energy of campus life.

Location and Accessibility

Temporary campus is located at Srinagar (Garhwal). Srinagar is 105 Km from Rishikesh on NH-58 heading towards Badrinath (193 Km from Srinagar). The nearest railway stations are Rishikesh and Haridwar. Nearest airport is situated at Jolly Grant, Dehradun which is 125 Km away from Srinagar. Taxis/Buses are available from Airport as well as the railway station for Srinagar. It takes 3-4 hours to reach Srinagar from Rishikesh.
