About the Institute
The Indian Institute of Information Technology Surat was established in Private-Public-Partnership (PPP) mode by Ministry of Education, Government of India in 2017. The Government of Gujarat, Gujarat Narmada Fertilizer Company Ltd., Gujarat Gas Ltd., and Gujarat Informatics Ltd, are the partners in the establishment and academic progression of the Institute. The Institute began its academic journey in June 2017 with Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) Surat as its Mentoring Institute. The Institute offers B.Tech. degree in Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering. The Institute has its own Senate and Governing Body looking after Academic and Administrative aspects, respectively. The development of infrastructure at the site of the permanent campus is currently in progress and the academic activities for current academic year will be carried out at the site of permanent campus.
Rules For Change Branch
During the first year, students study humanities courses and common core engineering courses. The change of branch is allowed only in the beginning of the second year subject to the conditions as detailed in academic rules.
Faculty
The faculties appointed by the Institute and visiting faculties from other Institutes & Industries will be conducting the classes.
Facilities
The hostel facility for the current academic year is arranged at SUV International School, Valthan which is at a distance of 11 km from institute’s own academic facility in Kholvad Village in Kamrej Taluka of Surat District. The Institute will provide hostel facility to all the students. It is expected that hostels will be ready by next academic year in Institute’s own campus in Kholvad.
Financial Assistance
The scholarships available from Central Government (NSP) and respective domicile State Governments are applicable and students are availing the scholarships.
Industry And Alumni Relations
The alumni association of the Institute will be activated during the current year.
Recreational/Extra Curricular activities
The Institute has its own academic clubs and sports club. Students have been actively participating in Inter-IIIT tournaments since 2018.
Location and Accessibility
Surat is a city of diamond and textile industries, and is also well-known for its top ranking among the clean cities in the Swachh Survekshan, the annual cleanliness survey conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India. The academic campus of the Institute is near the National Highway No.8 connecting New Delhi and Mumbai. The new campus is at a distance of about 15 km from the Surat Railway Station and Interstate Bus Terminus, and at a distance of 32 km from Surat Airport. Different parts of the city of Surat are well-connected with BRTS facility.
