About the Institute
Nestled amidst the enchanting landscapes of Tirupati, IIT Tirupati stands upon a vast expanse of 548 acres of awe-inspiring lush green campus on the foothills of the Seshachalam range. Emerging from humble beginnings under the mentorship of IIT Madras in 2015, IIT Tirupati has become the epitome of a third generation IITs with an unwavering vision to become a leading center of higher education with global outlook and local relevance. With the completion of Phase I construction, the campus houses a fully operational state of the art infrastructure in terms of classrooms, laboratories, workshops, hostels, and sports facilities which caters to the holistic development of students and prepares them to excel in their chosen fields. IIT-Tirupati offers undergraduate programs in five engineering disciplines, which includes Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The rigor and depth of academic curriculum in each discipline is meticulously crafted to impart adept knowledge and skills required for the fast-evolving opportunities in new engineering domains. The challenge of a demanding academic curriculum is fittingly met with the world class faculty to create a perfect synergy for stimulating learning experience. In addition to the curriculum, the institute’s academic fraternity engages actively in organizing seminars, conferences, and workshops throughout the year.
The campus currently accommodates about 1400 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Despite the prevailing gender imbalances prevalent in numerous IITs, IIT Tirupati stands as a beacon of progress, proudly showcasing a remarkable accomplishment with a commendable admission rate of female students into its B. Tech programs. Embracing the significance of creating an inclusive environment, IIT Tirupati proactively extends support to students hailing from financially marginalized backgrounds by providing tailored scholarships that alleviate financial barriers, ensuring that their educational aspirations are not hindered by financial constraints. In our relentless pursuit of fostering synergistic endeavors in academia and research, we have forged formidable alliances and established Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and academic affiliations with prestigious research institutes and laboratories, as well as renowned industry partners. IIT Tirupati encourages entrepreneurship and innovation among its students by providing support, resources, and incubation facilities for aspiring entrepreneurs, helping them turn their ideas into viable startups.
The campus is developed with modern and sustainable infrastructure to meet green building standards and incorporate energy-efficient systems. The campus accommodates student hostels equipped with all the essential amenities to make it a home away from home for students. Nevertheless, in the event of a much-needed respite, the campus boasts exceptional connectivity with the outside world_ facilitated by its proximity to Tirupati airport (12 kilometers) and Renigunta railway junction, at a mere distance of 14 kilometers. Welcome to IIT-Tirupati.
“As the sun sets upon the horizon, casting its golden glow upon the sprawling campus of IIT Tirupati, it serves as a reminiscence of boundless opportunities and the radiant future that awaits.”

In all the B.Tech programmes, credit based curriculum for 8 semesters will be followed. Each course is evaluated on a 10-point grading system with letter grades. The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is calculated at the end of each semester. At the end of the sixth semester, based on academic performance, students can opt for the dual-degree programme. Under the dual-degree programme, the student can complete both B.Tech and M.Tech degrees in five years.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Science (MS) by Research in all the streams have been started from the academic year 2017-18. Currently, the Institute offers the following postgraduate programmes:
M.Tech in Civil Engineering (Environmental & Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation & Infrastructure Engineering), Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Design & Manufacturing), Mechanical Engineering (Thermal Engineering and Energy systems),
Electrical Engineering (Signal Processing & Communication, RF and Microwave Engineering, Microelectronics and VLSI) and Computer Science & Engineering.
M.Sc. in Chemistry, Mathematics & Statistics, and Physics.
The Master of Public Policy (MPP) programme is introduced from the academic year 2022.
Rules For Change Branch
Under Regulation 5.0 of the B.Tech Ordinances & Regulations, Change of branch is be permitted subject to the following rules:
-

-
All students who have successfully completed the first year of the course, will be eligible for consideration for change of branch, subject to the availability of vacancies.
-
In making a change of branch, the strength of a class should not fall below the existing strength by more than ten percent and should not go above the sanctioned strength by more than ten percent. For this purpose, the strength in both cases refers to the total strength of the students in the class.
-
However, a minimum of one student will be eligible for consideration for change of branch from each discipline at the end of the first year, irrespective of the limitation in Point(3) above.
-
If a student with a higher CGPA is not offered a particular branch because of other constraints, this should not be offered to any other students with a lower CGPA even if he/she is eligible on the basis of the existing norms.
-
Change of branch rules is subject to revision from time-to-time and the decision of the Senate will be final and binding.
