About the Institute

The National Institute of Technology Goa (NIT Goa) is a premier national-level technical institute in India established in 2010 by an act of parliament (NIT Act, 2007 and NIT (Amendment) Act, 2012). NIT Goa is an autonomous institute functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, and has been declared an “Institute of National Importance”. The Institute is dedicated to its academic excellence and aims to produce quality Engineers and Scientists.

After a decade-long journey in the transit campus, the Institute has moved to its permanent campus at Cuncolim, South Goa. The permanent campus of NIT Goa was inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji on 6th February 2024. This marked a significant milestone in the Institute’s journey. The campus spreads over 114 acres with various facilities such as tutorial complex, departmental complex, seminar complex, administrative complex, health center, staff quarters, amenity center, sports ground and other utilities. The campus has the dedicated Hostel facility for girls and boys with a capacity of 275 and 825 students respectively.

NIT Goa offers residential facilities with separate hostels for male and female students, accommodating over a eleven hundred students. Each hostel provides comfortable, individual room accommodation near the Tutorial and Library Blocks, along with separate mess facilities. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hostel premises, enhancing the appeal of its peaceful and clean surroundings. Security personnel ensure round-the-clock safety. Six wardens oversee discipline and hygiene in their respective hostels, while overall supervision is managed by the Chief Warden along with a team of wardens. The hostel serves as a nurturing environment, shaping students' personal development during their academic journey.

 ADMISSIONS DETAILS

The Institute offers undergraduate programmes in Five Engineering Departments: (1) Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), (2) Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), (3) Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), (4) Civil Engineering (CVE), and (5) Mechanical Engineering (MCE). The Institute offers M.Tech. Programmes in the Three disciplines: (1) Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), (2) VLSI and (3) Power Electronics and Power Systems (PEPS). The Institute also offers Ph.D. degree in various stream of Engineering, Applied Sciences, Technology and Humanities & Social Sciences

B.Tech: Admissions are offered based on ranks in JEE (Main) and through the DASA scheme, subject to fulfilment of all necessary criteria and requirements.

M.Tech: Candidates with a valid GATE score and those applying through the CCMT are eligible for admission, subject to fulfilment of all necessary criteria and requirements. A few seats are reserved for eligible sponsored and DRDO candidates, provided they meet all necessary requirements. We also offer a Full-time Self-Financed (Non-GATE) M.Tech program for any remaining seats.

Ph.D.: Candidates can apply for admission as per the notifications published on the Institute’s website, with detailed guidelines, criteria, etc., mentioned in each notification. All necessary conditions must be met.

LOCATION

NIT Goa is located at Kottamoll Plateau, Cuncolim Municipal Area, Salcete Taluka, South Goa District, Goa - 403703. Cuncolim is located 15 kilometers from Margao City. Dabolim Airport in Vasco caters to domestic and international airlines that stop en route to other Indian destinations. It is at a distance of around 38 km (45 minutes by car) from the Institute. Manohar International Airport in Mopa is 77 km (1 hour and 30 minutes by car) from the Institute. The closest major railway station is ‘Madgaon Railway Station', which is around 15 km (25 minutes by car) from the Institute. Goa is well connected by roadways, railways and airways with various parts of the country.

Rules For Change Branch

Change of Branch

Normally, a student admitted to a particular branch of the undergraduate programme will continue studying in that branch till completion. However, Institute may permit a student admitted through JEE (Main)/DASA quota, to change from one branch of studies to another after the first two semesters. Such changes will be permitted, in accordance with the provisions laid down hereinafter, by the concerned competent authority.

          i.  Normally, only those students will be eligible for consideration of a change of branch, who satisfy the below minimum criteria,

    have completed all the credits required in the first two semesters of their studies in their first attempt;

    have obtained a CGPA ≥ 8.5 at the end of the SECOND semester. Mandatory learning courses (i.e., Non-Credit) will not be considered  for change of branch criteria.

         ii. Application for change of branch must be made by the intending eligible students in the prescribed form and is to be submitted within 15 days after second semester result declaration date. No separate notification will be released.

        iii. Mere submission of application for change of branch and fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria will not guarantee change of branch. It will be permitted only to vacancies available corresponding to the category of admission (JEE (Main)/DASA quota).

         iv. The applicants may be allowed a change in branch, strictly in order of merit, subject to the limitations as given below:

The actual number of students in the third semester in any particular branch to which the transfer is to be made should not exceed the sanctioned strength, and the actual number of students in any branch from which transfer is being sought does not fall below 75% of the total sanctioned intake.

 If a student S1 is not eligible to change from branch A to B due to the above clause (a), any other student S2 from any branch with CGPA of less than S1 will also not be permitted to change to branch B.

In case of a CGPA tie, the merit list shall be prepared based on the JEE (Main), All India Rank (AIR) for the tie applicants.

         v. The process of change of branch shall be completed on or before the first day of registration for the third semester courses

Central Library of NIT Goa

 Central Library of the National Institute of Technology Goa (NIT Goa) is a continuous growing organism with the compact features of documents, users and services. Its core objective is to support academics in knowledge generation through different educational activities, i.e., teaching and research. The library has the qualitative documents on subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Economics & Finance, Management, Professional Communication. Apart from these core collections, documents on other subjects are also available such as Hindi literature. The main focus of the library is to develop a qualitative collection with the books, journals, digital document, magazines and dailies. It is housed in a separate building where more than 10 thousand books, CD-ROMs, e-books are available. Moreover, library provides the access to the reputed international E-journals such as IEEE Xplore Digital Library, Springer, ACM Digital library, Elsevier (Back files), etc. Also, the NIT Goa library provides the access to selective E-books and the CMIE- ProwessIQ (Center for monitoring Indian Economy) database. The library automation software is used for housekeeping activities of NIT Goa library. It reminds and alerts to its users on their transactions, and assists them in searching in OPAC database to save the time. The NIT Goa library follows the recommendation method to procure the documents, to meet the knowledge needs of academicians. It is open for 12 hours in working day for reading purpose.

Healthcare at Campus

Our Sushruta Health Center, located centrally, provides comprehensive healthcare services. Staffed with a Medical Officer, Counsellor, Technical Assistant, Nurse, and Ambulance Drivers, we ensure 24/7 medical assistance.

Medical Equipment: Includes Electrocardiogram, Oxygen Cylinder, Pulse Oximeter,

Nebulizer, Glucometer, and other emergency equipment.

Pharmacy: Provides prescribed medicines and medical appliances since 2022.

Nursing: Offers outpatient services including dressing and administration of medicines.

E.C.G: Available for patients in need.

Dressing Room: Facilitates minor surgical procedures.


Student Life at Institute

NIT Goa provides a vibrant campus life with a variety of opportunities for students to engage in extracurricular activities. Our students participate in numerous cultural and technical festivals, sports events, workshops, seminars, and conferences,both within and outside the institute.

We have several student clubs/counciles and societies that cater to a wide range of interests. These include technical clubs like: SPECTRA, Coding Club, TESLA, META, Robotics Club, Civil Engineering Students Council (CESCO), SPIE, and Entrepreneurship Cell, etc. as well as cultural societies such as Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat (EBSB) Club, Music Club, Dance Club, Photography Club, and Drama Society etc. These platforms allow students to explore their passions, hone their skills, and showcase their talents.

In addition, our students also contribute to society through various initiatives. They organize and participate in events that help in improving environmental awareness, education, and health, thereby making a positive impact on society.

Industry And Alumni Relations

NIT Goa currently has eighteen (18) active Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). Among these, four (04) are with various industries, which include provisions for joint research and development projects in key fields of mutual interest, organization of educational programs/training, specialized hands-on, intensive training focusing on theoretical concepts and practical industrial practices for students/faculty, and the setup of laboratories. The institute also has nine (09) MoUs with various national and international academic institutions, some of which include provisions for student exchange programs.

Recreational/Extra Curricular activities

SPORTS AND GAMES 

 Apart from the strong academic pursuits and teaching process. Our institute aims to provide the ground to spend and enjoy time leisurely. NIT Goa was carried out various sports programmes successfully with the support and guidance of beloved Director. Institute Sports Officer is taking care of sports and other co-curricular activities happens in Institute and it was successfully done since inception of the Institute. Sports like football, cricket, volleyball, table tennis, carom, throwball, chess and athletics are commonly happenings in the institute. Institute has represented in various games in All India Inter NIT Tournament and medals awarded in athletics. Cultural events for the students also a main attraction and our students won in national level Drama competition in All India Inter NIT Cultural events. The talent and ability of students are up to mark and it will continue to maintain the same in future. Support from teaching faculties and other staffs towards sports and cultural events are most remarkable in NIT Goa.

 We possess a massive ground for students to socialize in a game of basketball, volleyball, cricket or football and ping pong tables inside the institute block.

Our green sprawling campus provides ample space for students to walk around and enjoy the weather and nature of Goa.
