About the Institute


Located in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh, NIT Hamirpur enjoys a really scenic environment and pleasant weather. Established in the year 1986, as REC Hamirpur, NIT Hamirpur has been declared as the Institute of National Importance under the Act of Parliament, 2007. The Institute enjoys complete autonomy in academic affairs and it is managed by an autonomous Board of Governors consisting of nominees of the Central and State Governments, Industry and other Educational Institutions/Universities. The Institute is fully financed by Ministry of Education, Government of India since April 2003. In conformity with the policy of Government of India, 50% seats are reserved for students from Himachal Pradesh and remaining 50% are earmarked for students from other states. Foreign Students are admitted under various schemes of Government of India like DASA, ICCR and MEA.

The Institute campus is located at Hamirpur District of Himachal Pradesh. The campus is located in the picturesque surrounding and facing snow clad Dhauladhar Mountain ranges. It is surrounded by lush green pine trees. The campus is well laid with roads, electricity installations, water supply, underground drainage, etc. The place has healthy climate with moderate temperature normally ranging from 03 degree Celsius (minimum) to 40 degree Celsius (maximum) with an altitude of 900 meters.

The Institute provides undergraduate and postgraduate education in engineering fostering the spirit of national integration among the students, a close interaction with industry and a strong emphasis on basic and applied research. The Institute has made tremendous strides in the areas of curriculum development, laboratory & infrastructure development and research. The Institute offers UG, PG and PhD programs in various disciplines of Engineering/Architecture. The institute also offers PG and PhD programs in the field of Science and Management.

Location and Accessibility

The campus is situated at Anu in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh and is 4 Kms from main inter state bus stand of Hamirpur on Hamirpur – Awah Devi road. The city of Hamirpur is well connected with the rest of the country by road. The nearest broad gauge rail head is at Una (Himachal Pradesh) which is 80 Kms from Hamirpur. The nearest airport is at Dharamshala (Gaggal, district Kangra) which is about 75 Kms from Hamirpur.
