It is imparting high quality education and values at UG (B.Tech, B.Tech + M.Tech (Dual Degree), B. Arch), PG (M.Tech, MURP) & Ph. D programmes through its experienced faculty and well-equipped laboratories.

At present the Institute is offering UG programme in 10 disciplines, viz., Architecture & Planning, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Department of Applied Physics and  Materials Engineering, Department of Chemical Science and Technology, Department of Mathematics and Computing Technology, Department of Mechatronics and Automation Engineering, postgraduate in Sixteen disciplines and Ph D in all the Eleven Departments. Institute currently enrols ~3500 undergraduate, ~400 post graduate and ~ 1500 research scholars.

NIT Patna is committed for academic excellence, human values and society upliftment. In short span of time, we have considerably improved our academic and research standards, innovation and entrepreneurship activities, visible through our Institute NIRF ranking which we could improve from 188 to 55.  Based on our performance and proactive activities, we could able to setup ISRO Regional Academic Center for Space, and Telecom Center of Excellence for training & research by Telecom Sector Skill Council, to name a few.

National Institute of Technology Patna aims at setting out very high education standards and holds long record of academic excellence. The pedagogical aspects have been formulated to suit not only the needs of the contemporary industrial requirements but also to develop human potential to its fullest extent in a range of professions. Cultural activities provide a platform to know about the culture of various states and regions of the country and opportunity for national integration.

 About NIT Patna Bihta Campus:

Over the last 17 years, NIT Patna has developed a good infrastructure to cater its teaching, learning, research and innovation needs. However, the present campus at Ashok Rajpath has only ~ 33 Acres of space, which is now fully saturated restricting any further growth and extension of activities and facilities. In year 2016 Government of Bihar has provided 125 Acres of Land at Bihta for the development of its Additional Campus. A master plan has been developed for ~ 6500 students in phased manner. Min. of Education, Govt of India has released Rs 499.21 Crore fund through HEFA for the development of NIT Patna Bihta campus with a total built-up area of ~ 1,12,000 Sq mt. NBCC has been selected as PMC and M/s Ahluwalia Contract as its builder. The project is of 21 month duration and started on 2nd August 2022.

There is a continuous, considerable all around growth and progress of the Institute which is amply reflected through Institute NIRF ranking. To mention specifically, it was 182 in the year 2018 , improved to 134, 92 and 72 in the year 2019, 2020 and 2021, respectively. In the year 2022 NIRF ranking we could reach upto 63rd position, in the year 2023 NIRF rank was 56 and in the year of 2024 NIRF rank was 55. As per this year ranking (2025) we have been placed at 53.  Now, we are unable to expand our activities further due to lack of space in the present campus, which restricts us to create new infrastructures needed for purposes like, starting of new thrust area courses, setting-up Centre of Excellences, Entrepreneurship and Start-up cells, etc.

The infrastructure created in the NIT Patna additional campus has removed these bottle neck and our multi-dimensional activities will get further strengthened. The development of Bihta Campus will provide steep jump in scaling our activities and will certainly provide a further quantum jump in our NIRF Ranking also.

Present Institute students’ strength (UG, PG, and Ph.D.) is ~ 4000; ~1500 students will remain at the present campus and ~2500 students will be housed at Bihta campus. Civil Engineering and Architecture & Planning Departments besides first year B. Tech program will be operated from the present campus. The remaining other Departments, like, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Applied Physics and  Materials Engineering, Department of Chemical Science and Technology, Department of Mathematics and Computing Technology, Department of Mechatronics and Automation Engineering and Humanities & Social Science will be moved to Bihta Campus. NIT Bihta campus will be a comprehensive integrated campus with all the needed facilities for teaching, learning, research, development, innovation and entrepreneurial   activities at a place. It will house all the Academic Departments, Administrative block, Data Center, Institute Library, CEP Center, Workshops, Research, Instruments & Innovation Center, Separate Boys and Girls Hostels, Canteen and Messes, Faculty and Staff Quarters, Students Activities Center, Play grounds, etc.

Institute Bihta campus has followings features: i) Campus with a vibrant environment for learning, ‘community’ living and recreation, ii) Compatible with minimum of four star GRIHA rating for Green buildings and site planning; iii) Genetic Heritage Park / Eco Park / Herbal Park/ Central Landscape Green Garden provisions, which will provide a pleasant campus experience to the residents and  students; iv) Campus with Green Corridor - An Informal Pedestrian Spine created in between Forest in a manner that creates a tranquil learning and living environment in harmony with the nature; v) Highly Energy-Efficient Building envelope: With appropriate Sun-path analysis for natural light, solar panels for electric generation, solar water heaters for hostels are proposed; vi) 100% organic waste conversion and on-site use of manure for landscaping; vii) Zero Discharge: 100% treatment of gray water generated by using STP plant and reuse of treated water for flushing and landscaping; besides so many other modern amenities and facilities.

NIT Patna Bihta campus provides state of the Art facilities to its stake holders and a big leap toward Institute growth.  778 STUDENTS have been shifted in session 2024-2025 with all facilities. The Centre of Excellence based upon the need of our have been incorporated with the introduction of new specializations, such as Material engineering and Mechatronics. Development of NIT Bihta campus will alleviate the Institute restriction in starting newer Departments, Contemporary Courses, Centers of Excellence, PG Programs and other Entrepreneurial activates due to the present space crunch. The presence of IIT Patna, DMI, Software Technology Park, IIM, CIPET and MSME  in its neighborhood will provide additional win-win situation to the all and will prove to be catalyst in the Industrial growth and innovation for Bihar.
