About the Institute

Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIITG) stands as a premier Institution of National Importance, established under an Act of Parliament. It offers B.Tech. programs in Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), and Electronics Communication and Artificial Intelligence (ECAI), along with M.Tech. and Ph.D. programs in CSE, ECE, Mathematics, and Humanities and Social Sciences. IIITG started its operations in 2013 with Prof. Gautam Barua as its founding Director. The foundation stone for its permanent campus was laid on 19 January 2016 by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The institute moved to its permanent campus in July 2018. Prof. Sarat Kumar Patra, Director of NIT Agartala, is the Director-in-Charge of the Institute.

The Institute is very conveniently located near LGBI Airport Guwahati (4 km from the Airport), and nestled on a sprawling 67-acre fully vibrant campus. The institute has 50+ permanent faculty members drawn from institutes of high repute and a sizable number of faculty members have more than 10+ years of experience in academics and research. The institute has distinguished itself with an NIRF ranking of #66 in the Engineering category in 2020, the highest among all MHRD-funded IIITs and it is still the top IIIT (in PPP mode). The academic environment is truly world-class with a modern air-conditioned academic complex including classrooms, resourceful labs, a library etc. which are open and accessible 24x7 throughout the year. Campus-wide Wi-Fi with power backup ensures uninterrupted availability in every hostel room and academic area and provides a conducive environment for learning.

Beyond academics, IIITG's research spans cutting-edge areas like artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, wireless communications, and IoT, with students excelling in national and international competitions. IIITG has an impressive placement record — the Class of 2025 saw recruiters like Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Atlassian, Samsung, Cisco, DE Shaw, and Flipkart, with the highest package reaching ₹59 Lakhs Per Annum (LPA) and an average of ₹17.64 LPA. The institute goes beyond placements to nurture well-rounded individuals — with dedicated sports facilities, music rooms, separate hostels for boys and girls, and a training and placement cell offering career guidance and interview preparation. IIITG students from the very first batch secured admission to M.S. and Ph.D. programs at globally renowned institutions including Carnegie Mellon University, Arizona State University, and the University of Texas at Austin to name a few.  IIITG doesn't just build engineers — it cultivates innovators, critical thinkers, and leaders ready to shape India's digital future. If you have the drive and the ambition, IIITG is the launchpad you deserve.

Fee Structure

Fee for the Admission Batch 2026

First Semester Fees for New Students (Without Hostel)

Sl. No. Items Periodicity Amount (in Rs.)
1 Tuition Fee Per Semester 1,47,500
2 Institute Caution Money One Time (Refundable)      5,000
5 Gymkhana Fee Per Semester      1,000
Total Fee/Deposit Payable at Admission Time (Less What Has Been Paid to JoSAA / CSAB) 1,53,500

Example of Amounts to be Paid at Admission Time to the Institute (Excluding Hostel Fee and Mess Advance)

Case 1: General / OBC candidate paid JoSAA Rs. 75,000 as partial fees. JoSAA retains Rs. 5,000 as processing fee. So the amount payable to the Institute is Rs. 1,53,500 − 70,000 = Rs. 83,500.

Case 2: SC / ST / PwD candidate paid JoSAA Rs. 35,000 as partial fees. JoSAA retains Rs. 5,000 as processing fee. So the amount payable to the Institute is Rs. 1,53,500 − 30,000 = Rs. 1,23,500.

Case 3: General / OBC candidate paid CSAB Rs. 75,000 as partial fees. CSAB retains Rs. 5,000 as processing fee. So the amount payable to the Institute is Rs. 1,53,500 − 70,000 = Rs. 83,500.

Case 4: SC / ST / PwD candidate paid CSAB Rs. 35,000 as partial fees. CSAB retains Rs. 5,000 as processing fee. So the amount payable to the Institute is Rs. 1,53,500 − 30,000 = Rs. 1,23,500.

Case 5: General / OBC candidate paid JoSAA Rs. 75,000 as partial fees. Then opted for CSAB special rounds and paid another Rs. 5,000 to CSAB. JoSAA retains Rs. 5,000 as processing fee and CSAB retains Rs. 5,000 as processing fee. So the amount payable to the Institute is Rs. 1,53,500 − 70,000 = Rs. 83,500.

Case 6: SC / ST / PwD candidate paid JoSAA Rs. 35,000 as partial fees and later paid another Rs. 5,000 to CSAB. JoSAA retains Rs. 5,000 as processing fee and CSAB retains Rs. 5,000 as processing fee. So the amount payable to the Institute is Rs. 1,53,500 − 30,000 = Rs. 1,23,500.

Facilities

Student Accommodation

IIIT Guwahati provides hostel accommodation for both boys and girls within the campus. The boys’ hostel has an accommodation capacity of approximately 820 students, while the girls’ hostel has an accommodation capacity of approximately 226 students.

There are five types of room available for BTech students viz i) Double sharing room having separate beds with attached washroom, ii) Double sharing room having bunk beds with attached washroom, iii) Double sharing room having separate beds with common washroom, iv) Triple sharing room having separate beds with attached washroom, and v) Triple sharing room having separate beds with common washroom.

Students may be allotted in any type of the room depending on availability.

On-campus hostel accommodation will be provided to all girls and PwD students. Due to the limited availability of on-campus hostel accommodation for boys, a certain number of students (approximately 80-120) may need to be accommodated outside the campus. To address this accommodation requirement, IIIT Guwahati has empanelled Paying Guest (PG) accommodation provider(s). The empanelled PG accommodations are within approximately 6.5 km from the IIIT Guwahati campus. The travel time between the campus and the PG accommodation is approximately 15-20 minutes by bus or car.
