With the opening of the Indian economy, our manufacturing sector is forced to compete with global giants even for the domestic market. This process has also enhanced customer expectations for quality products with cost advantage. On account of this changing scenario, our industry needs suitably trained manpower with skill sets appropriate for design, development and prototyping using modern IT tools to achieve quality and cost advantage. 

Keeping this in mind, the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Kancheepuram was set up as an academic institution of excellence that would facilitate and promote the competitive advantage of Indian products in global markets. This Institute serves as an inter-disciplinary institution for education and research in the area of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) encompassing design and manufacturing using state-of-the-art concepts, tools, processes and practices of the industry the world over. 

This Institute offers design and manufacturing-oriented engineering education and research programs. These programs integrate engineering design, manufacturing and management with information technology. The institute is located on a 51-acre campus on the outskirts of Chennai, off the Vandalur-Kelambakkam road. It is a fully residential campus with a separate hostel for boys and girls with a dining facility. The campus houses the academic block, the administrative block, the lecture hall complex and the laboratory block.

Academic Structure

Design-Centric Engineering Education

Academic programs being offered at IIITDM Kancheepuram are novel and differ from their conventional counterparts. The graduates have been exposed to design thinking and manufacturing aspects involved in Computer, Electronics and Mechanical engineering in addition to the regular courses of the institute. A stream of courses starting from the evolution of design, design visualization using digital tools, design realization in hobby workshops, and individual and team-based product design and development were introduced. The students emerge as product designers who can conceptualize and evaluate ideas, and make tangible products through more systematic deliberations and discussions with academicians from reputed institutions and industry stakeholders. Rules For Change Branch

The institute offers branch change options under its program transfer policy, allowing admitted students to transfer from B.Tech to B.Tech and from DD to DD, provided they meet the eligibility conditions stipulated in the ordinance.

Department laboratories 

The departments (CSE, ECE, ME, SH, SIDI) have modern infrastructure with access to tools and simulation software. The laboratories include     High-performance computing, Product Design and Prototyping, VLSI and Microelectronics, Advanced Manufacturing, AI and Robotics etc.

Library

The institute library (Knowledge Plaza) plays an important role in providing quality information and services to the members besides committed to supporting the Institute’s mission. The Library uses an automated (Library and Information Management) software KOHA with Integrated RFID Technology. All the registered users can access the Institute library anywhere within the campus through LAN/WiFi.

The institute is one of the core members of the Indian National Digital Library in Engineering Sciences and Technology (INDEST) consortium and has subscribed to nearly 600 e-journals, conference proceedings, standards, viz IEL (IEEE & IEE) and Elsevier Science Direct Links.

Health Center 

The medical facility inside the campus is operating 24X7 along with an ambulance. Specialized doctor visits in the evening hours from 5 pm to 7 pm. The Institute also has tie-ups with reputed hospitals to provide medical care. All the students are also covered under group medical as well as accidental insurance coverage

Truly said! At IIITDM Kancheepuram, we provide facilities for students to maintain their physical fitness and excel as bright students. The institute has a gymnasium, cricket ground, football ground, basketball court, lawn tennis court, volleyball court, table tennis room, badminton court etc. Inter IIIT sport meets are conducted on an annual basis and the students from all IIITs participate in this event.
