The Indian Institute of Information Technology Bhopal (IIIT Bhopal) was established by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI), as a Not-for-profit public-private partnership (N-PPP). It is recognized as an Institute of National Importance (INI) under the Indian Institute of Information Technology University Act 2017.

The institute is a joint venture of the MoE, Government of India, Government of Madhya Pradesh, and Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) Bhopal (M.P.), with contributions in the ratio of 50:35:15, respectively. It was established to cultivate advanced knowledge in information technology and provide globally standard manpower to the IT and related sectors. The institute is committed to promoting excellence in higher education, research, and development in Information Technology and the associated curriculum.

IIIT Bhopal offers a variety of degree programs across multiple disciplines. These include Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science & Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence), Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science), Computer Science and Engineering (Cyber Security), Computer Science and Engineering (Cyber Physical System), Information Technology (IT), and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE).

In addition, the Institute also offers two PG programmes, namely, Master of Computer Applications (MCA) - a three-year full-time programme and M. Tech programs - Regular/Full-Time and Professional/Part-Time formats. These include M. Tech in Artificial Intelligence (offered by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering), M. Tech in Data Science (offered by the Department of Information Technology), and M. Tech in Cyber Physical Systems (offered by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering).

Admissions to these UG degree programs are conducted through the JEE (Main) examination, with the process being overseen by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) and the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), both under the Government of India.

Two new programmes introduced from academic year 2025-26 are: B. Tech in Physics and Computational Engineering, and B. Tech in Mathematics and Computing.                                                                                                             

Currently, IIIT Bhopal operates temporarily from the campus of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal. However, approximately 60 Acres of land have been allocated in Bhopal for the institute’s permanent campus. The Governing Council includes eminent people from academia, industry, and government who oversee the institute's governance.

Academic Structure

The institute is committed to recognizing itself as a leader in Information Technology-related Science and Engineering. IIIT Bhopal aims to create an environment where new ideas, research, and scholarship flourish, from which tomorrow's leaders, innovators, and IT entrepreneurs will emerge. IIIT Bhopal is offering the following nine B.Tech programmes:

Rules For Change Branch

Students are eligible for change of branch/discipline at the end of 1st Year only, provided he/she satisfies the following criteria:

  1. Students having CGPA > 8.50 (General, EWS & OBC category) and CGPA > 8.00 (SC, ST & PWD category) at the end of 2nd semester and must have cleared all subjects.
  2. Candidate should not have F and / or I grade.
  3. The strength of discipline from which transferred is being made does not fall below 90% of the existing strength.
  4. Students are advised to consult their parents for change of branch. Branch once allotted will be final & binding to the student and further will not be changed.
  5. Merit list will be prepared according to their CGPA in first year. In case of tied CGPA score their JEE (Main) All India Rank (through which they have taken the admission in first year) will be used.
  6. The allotment will be made on merit as per CGPA of the student and the options given by him/her.
  7. The reservations of EWS, SC, ST, OBC, PH etc will be kept as it is and no change of category will be permitted as per Ministry of Education (MoE) guide lines.
  8. The change of branch will be subjected to approval from Director, IIIT Bhopal.
  9. Student may also exercise option of branch where vacancies are indicated as NIL, as vacancies subsequently created in re-allotment will be operated as per student option.
  10. The allotment will be made on the SPOT purely on merit as per CGPA of the student and the option given by him/her.
  11. The seats which will remain vacant after the process of branch change will be kept vacant if the student of the relevant quota is unavailable.  

Facilities

Classes: The Classes of IIIT Bhopal will be conducted at the New Teaching Block and MPSTEP of MANIT Bhopal till any further orders from the competent authorities. According to availability and requirements, the university and other facilities of MANIT Bhopal will be shared with the students of IIIT Bhopal.

Hostel (Based on room availability): Hostel facilities will be provided for only first-year boys and girls students at the Hostels of 1.) BSNL, PNT Coloney, Bhopal, 2.) BHEL, Bhopal, 3.) NITTTR, Bhopal, and 4.) Satya Sai College Girls Hostel, Bhopal.
