B.Tech Academic Structure
The Indian Institute of Information Technology Raichur (IIIT Raichur), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, was established by an Act of Parliament in the year 2019 under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model and notified vide The Indian Institutes of Information Technology Laws (Amendment) Act, 2020. The Institute's permanent campus, spanning 75 acres, is situated at Wadawati Village, Gadwal Road, Raichur, Karnataka, approximately 14 kilometres from Raichur Railway Station.
IIIT Raichur offers a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programme in the following three specialisations, all of which are governed by the Institute's Ordinances and Regulations:
1. Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)
2. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI & DS)
3. Mathematics and Computing (M & C)
The academic programmes have been meticulously structured to impart a rigorous and comprehensive foundation in information technology and computer science, whilst simultaneously nurturing an ethos of scholarly inquiry and research amongst students. Central to the Institute's pedagogical philosophy is the Fractal Academic System, a distinctive framework of continuous and holistic evaluation that ensures sustained academic engagement and the consistent assessment of student performance throughout the duration of the programme.
Academic Structure
Duration: 4 years, comprising 8 semesters.
Credit Requirements: Each specialisation has a prescribed minimum credit requirement. To qualify for the B.Tech Degree, a student must complete the credits as specified in the curriculum for the respective programme:
1. CSE: 129 credits
2. AI & DS: 130 credits
3. M & C: 130 credits
Core Subjects:
1. CSE: Algorithms, Data Structures, Computer Networks, Operating Systems, Databases, Programming Languages.
2. AI & DS: Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Analytics, Natural Language Processing.
3. M & C: A blend of mathematics, computer science, and their applications, providing a strong foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects to prepare students for diverse career paths in industry and academia.
Electives: A wide range of electives is available in advanced and interdisciplinary areas. Electives from one specialisation may be opted for in another, subject to:
No timetable clash, and
Prior approval from the concerned department/faculty.
Internships: The curriculum incorporates flexible semester‑long and summer internships as part of coursework. These enable students to apply theoretical knowledge to real‑world scenarios, develop professional skills (teamwork, communication, problem‑solving), and gain valuable industry exposure and networking opportunities, thereby enhancing employability.
B.Tech Honours Programme
IIIT Raichur offers an Honours programme (available for all three specialisations) designed to challenge high‑achieving and ambitious students without overburdening average performers.
Eligibility and Requirements:
A student may opt for Honours after completion of the second year.
CGPA ≥ 8.0 (with no backlog) at the end of the fourth semester.
Completion of an additional 12 discipline credits.
CGPA ≥ 8.0 (with no backlog) at the end of the eighth semester, and no backlogs at any point during the B.Tech course.
Curriculum Highlights
The curriculum is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge aligned with the requirements of industry and national priorities.
Programme Progression:
First Year: Broad courses in engineering, science, and liberal arts.
Second Year: Core engineering and interdisciplinary subjects.
Third Year: Specialisation electives and research projects.
