The Department of Electronics and Communication (J.K. Institute of Applied Physics and Technology) is located in the Muir College Campus (Science Faculty) of the University of Allahabad. The Department is one of the oldest and a pioneer institution in the field of Electronics and Communication as well as in  Computer Science and conducting significant research and teaching for the past 60 years.

 History

Its foundation stone was laid by  Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India, on January 14, 1949 and it was formally inaugurated by him on April 4, 1956. J.K. Charitable Trust contributed for the construction of the complete building structure of the institute, hence the department's name is commonly known as J.K.Institue. The Department has a long history of collaborating with some of the country's top research institutes such as DRDO, ISRO, CATC, NIELIT etc.

The undergraduate course in Computer Science was started in the year 1982 and the post graduate course in Computer Science was started in the year 1986. The Defence Research and Development organization (DRDO) had selected the institute as a center of Manpower development in the area of Computer Science through which the students were inducted as Scientist B in their organizations up to 1992. After 1992, M.Sc. Computer Science program has been taken over as UGC program.

 Academic  Courses

The Department conducts courses in the fields of Electronics & Communication and Computer Science. These courses have been designed to meet the current challenging demands of the nation. The Department offers B.Tech. (Electronics & Communication Engineering), B.Tech. (Computer Science & Engineering), M.Tech. (Electronic & Communication Engineering), M.Tech. (Computer Science & Engineering), B.Sc (Computer Science), M.Sc (Computer Science) and D.Phil programs in the field of Computer Science, Electronics and Communication. 

 Admission

The Department admits undergraduate students through Joint Entrance Examination Mains (JEE).  Admission in B.Sc., Post Graduate courses and D.Phil. is done by Institute/University on the basis of admission test/merit of qualifying degree.

Our students are placed in various goverment, private organizations and in different academic institutes like - BSNL, DOT, UPPCL,  All India Radio, DoorDarshan,  Indian Railways, DRDO, BEL, IOC, TCS, MBT, RELIANCE, INTEL, IBM, COGNIZANT, STPI, India Mart, Synoriq, Byju's, UPGRAD, HCL etc. 

In last years - Students have been selected by MediaTek ,Microsoft,Dell Technologies, Reliance Industries Limited, Tata consultancy services limited,Mathworks, Morgan Stanley, TCS Innovative labs, HCL Technologies, HCL Technologies BEL,ICON Resources, MIND Infotech P. ltd., PARINTEK Innovations, EXL ltd. and some by other companies. Some students have been selected for Master degree/Research program by USA universities and foreign institutes like University of Illinois, University of Florida, University of Nebraska at Omaha , McGill, KIT Germany etc. Some students have opted for higher education in Indian institute like- IITs, IISc.,NITs,IIMs etc.

Students do perform fairly well in GATE, GRE, CAT, NMAT exams.
