About the Institute

About Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology, Malda

Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology (GKCIET), Malda, West Bengal is a centrally funded technical institute under Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. The institute was established in 2010.The Institute is located at Malda, West Bengal with the bordering districts of Bihar, Jharkhand and North-Eastern states. Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology (GKCIET), Malda was established with the objective to create a multi-layered inter disciplinary and inter-sectorial efficient professional technical manpower to act as an international podium for the development and transfer of technical competence in academics. GKCIET is devoted to provide leadership, organizational expertise, technical assistance and the other resources required to meet the demands. The Institute is offering 3 years diploma and 4 years B.Tech programs in the departments of Electrical Engineering, Food Engineering and Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering. All of the diploma programs are affiliated to the West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational Education and Skill Development (WBSCT&VE&SD), Kolkata, and all B.Tech programs are affiliated to the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), West Bengal. These diploma and degree programs are approved by the AICTE, New Delhi.

The Institute also proposes to start M.Tech programs in Heat Power Engineering, Power Systems, Data Sciences, Food Technology, Environmental Engineering and Management from the A.Y. 2026-27. The Institute has already obtained AICTE approvals for these programs while affiliation from affiliating University is expected soon. 

 

Programs offered at GKCIET, Malda

1. B. Tech (4 Years Duration) under the MAKAUT, West Bengal 

50% of the approved intake shall be filled up by the candidates of West Bengal through West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) Board.

25% of the approved intake shall be filled up by the eligible candidates of North-East (NE) states, i.e., Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland and Sikkim through Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – JoSAA/CSAB

25% of the approved intake shall be filled up by the eligible candidates from All India through Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-JoSAA/CSAB. All India quota.

Eligibility Qualification: Class X+2 pass / equivalent examination along with other essential criteria, as per JoSAA/ CSAB/ WBJEE/ affiliating University rules. 

 

2. Diploma (3 Years Duration) under the WBSCT&VE&SD, Kolkata

80% of the approved intake shall be filled up by the candidates of West Bengal through JEXPO conducted by the WBSCT&VE&SD, Kolkata

20% of the approved intake shall be filled up through a separate entrance test (GKCIET Entrance Test/GET) conducted by Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology (GKCIET), Malda.

Eligibility Qualification: Matric (10th Std.) pass/equivalent examination along with other essential criteria mandated by WBSCT&VE&SD.

Therefore, this Institute follows all norms and standards of the affiliating University (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal) in respect of all academic activities. Student Life at Institute

The GKCIET aims to make students disciplined, aware of environment, and a strong human being. Accordingly, the institute provides a pleasant academic environment in a sprawling area of about 101 acres of land at Narayanpur, Malda with Administrative Block, 4 separate Academic Blocks, Workshops, and Library facilities, Canteen, Student Amenities and Common Rooms etc.  The institute provides buses for local transport from Malda City to the Main Campus also. The class starts usually at 9:00 AM and continues till 5:30 PM. Faculties extend their hand in teaching-learning process, share experiences of academic issues to the students in growing them into new generation/digital life on completion of their courses. Students also participate in different sports (Inter or Intra) and other co-curricular activities of the Institute.

This is a ragging-free campus with 24/7 CCTV surveillance at sensitive locations.   

Different committees/clubs have been constituted for coordinating and supervising student related activities at Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology, Malda from time to time includes various co-curricular activities such as International Yoga Day, National Language Day, Sports, Fest, Swachha Bharat Abhiyan, Run for Unity, tree plantation ceremony, etc. These activities are organized by the members of all Committees/Clubs in coordination with students. Every year, students organize Cultural Fest “Krishtitarang”, Annual Sports “Pratisphardha” and Technical Fest “Techprabha” making the campus vibrant.

Training & Placement

Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology, Malda has a Training & Placement Section leading by the senior faculty members of the Institute. This Section is developed mainly to encourage students to participate in internships, industrial training/visit at various industries of the country, and aims to communicate with the industry and other corporate sectors for placement of graduating students. This section facilitates students for developing themselves as per the need of industry and to acquire knowledge to project themselves as entrepreneurs. It is to help students to place in different esteemed companies through on-campus or off-campus and make them self-dependent. 

The percentage of placement for the academic year 2025-26 is 100 %. Many students have qualified in GATE and are opting for higher education in different NITs, IITs and Universities.

The institute aims in developing the industry-academia relation through its faculty members, training and placement cell, and alumni of the Institute.

For this purpose, different committees/clubs have been constituted for coordinating and supervising student related activities at Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology, Malda from time to time includes various co-curricular activities such as Rabindra Jayanti, National Language Day, Sports, Swachha Bharat Abhiyan, Fit India Run etc. These activities are organized by the members of all Committees/Clubs in coordination with students.

Location and Accessibility

The institute is located at Narayanpur, Malda, and being developed in a sprawling area of about 101 acres of land at a distance of about 10 km from Malda Town railway station and 0.7 km from the National Highway No. 34. GPS Coordinates: 25.0553 N, 88.1634 E.

Malda is well connected to all the important cities of India via rail network. Malda Town railway station is  on the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri line under Malda Railway Division.

Bus service available from Dharmatala (Kolkata) or Esplanade (Kolkata) for Siliguri / Malda/ Balurghat / Raiganj.

Nearest domestic airport is Bagdogra, Siliguri while the nearest International Airport is at Kolkata. 

GKCIET provides bus service to non-residential students for local transport from Malda city to GKCIET Main Campus at Narayanpur, Malda.
