About the Institute


Birla Institute of Technology Patna Off-Campus came into existence in the year 2006 with the initiative of the Government of Bihar under the flagship management of BIT Mesra, Ranchi, with a vision to provide quality education for the students of Bihar and to other parts of the country who wish to pursue their career in technical education at a premier university. The institute started its academic program from the session 2006 07; since then, it has been growing continuously and establishing academic landmarks. The Patna Off- Campus of BIT is the first of its kind, dedicated fully to the course of Engineering, Technology & Management. The campus is located adjacent to Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna. The campus is fully residential, comprising Academic Space, separate, spacious Hostels for both boys and girls, Guest House, Staff Quarters, Dispensary, Playground, well-equipped Gymnasium, Student activity centre, dance room, yoga hall, and a state-of-the-art Auditorium. The campus is fully residential, with hostels providing accommodation for all students. The campus has three boys' hostels and one girls' hostel. It also has a 24-hour security monitoring system, an ATM facility, a fully functional institute canteen serving quality food, and a Nescafé store. The college is enriched with 46000+ books comprising 3700+ titles, as well as journals, magazines, and other resources. The central library has an online e-library system for the greater benefit of the students. The college offers free bus transport to all students. 

Birla Institute of Technology Patna Off-Campus seeks to attract the best students from diverse backgrounds and offer them an excellent educational experience. The institute offers more flexibility and choice to students in its academic programmes by blending a rich suite of educational, research, and co-curricular activities with personality development, life skills, and career planning to support holistic development.

Academic Structure

Birla Institute of Technology, Patna, Off-Campus follows the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS), which allows students to choose electives alongside their course subjects.

There is also provision for completing minor courses from other branches alongside the subjects of the main branch.

Rules For Change Branch

There is a provision for branch change (B.Tech. 2nd year students (3rd semester)), subject to availability of seats and considering the following criteria:

  1. Maximum 10% of the existing students of any discipline/branch shall be considered to change the discipline/branch purely on a performance merit basis.
  2. Students who have completed all the examinations of the first two semesters in the first attempt and have a minimum CGPA as under, shall be considered for such branch sliding:

a) General Category/EWS/OBC/EBC – 8.0 and above

b) SC/ST Category -  7.0 and above

Student Life at Institute

The green residential campus is self-contained with excellent hostel facilities and hangout zones. 

BIT Mesra, Patna Off-Campus, has been actively nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset among its students. The institute has an incubation centre where young minds showcase their promising ideas, and many turn their ideas into business realities, which are initially supported by the Bihar Startup Programmes. From time to time, various events are organised which spotlight students’ entrepreneurial ability in front of business experts and alumni. 

Sports are an integral part of campus life, promoting teamwork, discipline, and leadership alongside academic growth. The institute offers excellent facilities for a wide range of indoor and outdoor sports, encouraging active student participation. Students engage in healthy competition through inter-branch events, which foster a strong intra-college sports culture, and Prakrida, the flagship inter-branch sports tournament that brings together talent, spirit, and sportsmanship on a larger scale. Regular participation in these events, along with external tournaments, helps students develop resilience, strategic thinking, and collaboration qualities essential for success in professional environments. 

Financial Assistance

The Institute is providing different kind of financial assistance / scholarship to the students of various UG and PG programmes, such as:

  1. Meritorious scholarship (based on AIR in JEE-Main for all categories)
  2. G.P. Birla Scholarship (based on semester wise result - SGPA)
  3. Fee waiver in tuition fee for staff wards 

Training & Placement

The placement sessions begin in August, and the Placement Cell sends invitations with the relevant information to the organisations until June of the year. The alumni of BIT Off-Campus Patna have been performing well at companies such as Google, Amazon, ServiceNow, PayPal, Cashfree, Genpact, Tata Group, Adani, Jindal, Infosys, Wipro, and Cognizant.

The training and placement cell of BIT Patna caters to the demand of almost all the sectors of the industry by providing talented and qualified students in the field of major recruiters ranging from Analytics and Consulting, Automotive Industry, Core Manufacturing, Fintech & Banking Services, Edutech, Electronics & Semiconductors, IT Product/ Services & Technology, Logistics and Supply Chain, Merchant Navy, Real Estate/ Infrastructure, Retail & E-commerce, Telecom sectors. Placement 2025-26: A total of 116 recruiters (including both at Mesra & Patna campuses) conducted campus drives for BIT Patna students in 2025-26, which generated 34 Full-Time Employment and 8 Internship offers across different sectors of the industry. 16 students have received an annual salary of more than INR 6 Lacs. The highest CTC offered is INR 47 Lacs, the lowest CTC offered was INR 4 Lacs, and the average CTC is 5.73 Lacs per annum for the year 2025-26.

Placement 2024-25: Total number of 127 recruiters (includes both at Mesra & Patna campuses) conducted campus drive for BIT Patna students in_ 2024-25 _that has generated 45 numbers of Full Time Employment and 12 numbers of Internship offers across different sectors of the industry. 32 students have received an annual salary of more than INR 6 Lacs. The highest CTC offered is INR 34.44 Lacs, the lowest CTC offered was INR 3.3 Lacs, and the average CTC is 7.08 Lacs per annum for the year 2024-25.

Placement 2023-24: A total of 131 recruiters conducted campus drives for BIT Patna students in 2023-24, which generated 86 Full-Time Employment and 40 Internship offers across different sectors of the industry. A total of 52 companies conducted the campus process at BIT Patna for the first time this year, and several meritorious students have received multiple offers. 42 students have received an annual salary of more than INR 6 Lacs. The highest CTC offered is INR 34.44 Lacs, the lowest CTC offered was INR 3 Lacs, and the average CTC is 6.63 Lacs per annum for the year 2023-24.

  6. Ms Shiwangi Snigdha and Ms Richa Prasad from the 2019-23 batch, B.Tech in Mechanical and EEE, respectively, of BIT PATNA, have secured one of the highest international campus packages, 27+ Lacs, from Tolaram Group (Africa).
  7. Ms Sanya Sinha, 2020-24 batch, B.Tech ECE, BIT PATNA, has received a full-time internship offer from the University of Warwick, UK, in the field of Data Science and Social Good.
  8. Ms Ayushi Jaiswal and Ms Garima Singh, both from the 2020-24 batch, both B.Tech CSE, BIT PATNA, have secured PPOs of 34+ Lacs from PayPal.
  9. Ms. Priti Kumari- 2022-26 batch,  B.Tech-CSE, has bagged a paid summer internship at Google and fulltime offer at Intuit at a package of 47 Lacs.
  10. Ms. Vaishnavi student of 2016-20 batch B.Tech Production Engineering has secured AIR-74 rank in UPPCS-24.

The alumni portal www.alumni.bitmesra.ac.in, which was launched in February 2020, has received a very good response. This platform offers amazing features that enable alumni to stay connected with their college and friends and explore professional opportunities. Presently, the institute has a database of about 40,000 registered alumni on the portal. The portal has become a useful tool for engaging alumni worldwide.

The institute has also registered an alumni association, BITMAA (Birla Institute of Technology Mesra Alumni Association), to strengthen relationships and serve as an apex body for alumni engagement and outreach. All chapters worldwide are represented in BITMAA.

Recreational/Extra Curricular activities

The Institute has comprehensive facilities for outdoor sports and games. BIT hosts several extracurricular activities, necessary for the overall healthy development of the young mind. It has a big playground, basketball courts, volleyball courts, lawn tennis courts, badminton courts, and well-equipped gymnasiums with modern multi-gym facilities. In addition, we have a well-trained coach and guide to support and encourage students' participation in sports.

There are many Student Societies and Clubs that support students in nurturing their hobbies and other creative talents for relaxation and entertainment. These Societies and Clubs include PRATIBIMB Dramatics & Cultural Society, Megapixel Photographic Club, Students Chapter of IEEE, Literally Club, DIVYA Society for Soft Skills, Robotics Society, SAE Chapter- Automobile, ASME Student Society, IGNITE Technological Society, etc.

BIT PATNA provides the students with many opportunities to demonstrate their talent on a platform much wider than their immediate peer circle in the form of sports events like the INTER COLLEGE SPORTS FEST, ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET, and various inter/intra-state sports meets. Students of BIT Patna organise the tech fest TECHNIKA every year to showcase their talent and develop unique, innovative ideas. Several traditional festivals, such as Saraswati Puja and Viswakarma Puja, are also celebrated with great devotion on campus.

For the upliftment and empowerment of underprivileged children, the National Social Services (NSS) group of the institute organises various activities, including National-level RD & Pre-RD Camps, Tree Plantation Ceremony, Blood Donation Camps, Yoga Day, Cancer Day, Youth Parliament, etc.

Various Committees and Cells, such as the Women's Cell (ICC), Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, Anti-Ragging Committee, and Squads, have been constituted in accordance with the norms of regulatory bodies.
