Academic Structure:
B.Tech Programme

IIT Palakkad has a flexible credit based curriculum for its programs. Each academic year has two main semesters. The monsoon semester which runs from August to December and the winter semester which runs from January to April.  The B.Tech. programme is of 8 semesters duration. Every discipline has a curriculum consisting of core and elective courses carefully chosen to give both a broad grip on the fundamentals of engineering and an in-depth understanding of the respective discipline. Every curriculum has a considerable number of elective courses under different pools. The students have the flexibility to choose the elective course based on their interests and aspirations. There is also a pool of Humanities, Social Science and other general courses which help the all-round development of the students. A major project that is done by all the students in the last two semesters is a highlight of the programme. The students also do at least one industry internship during their summer. The curriculum gives the flexibility for taking online courses, doing a semester abroad, and enabling projects in external organisations. Meritorious students also have an option of earning a B.Tech with Honours by taking additional courses.

IIT Palakkad has a grading policy based on continuous assessment. Grades are awarded on a 10 point scale and the academic performance is quantified by the Grade Point Average (GPA) and the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

Rules For Change Branch:

All the B.Tech streams have the same curriculum in the first year. IIT Palakkad allows a selected number of students to change their branch based on their academic performance in the first year. The change comes into effect at the end of their first year. The number of students who can make a change of branch is limited so that the final strength in any branch doesn’t deviate by much.

Faculty:

IIT Palakkad has well qualified and energetic, young and experienced faculty members who are in a position to provide high quality academic experience to students. IIT Palakkad’s faculty members take pride in their commitment towards the teaching-learning process. The research scholars and post-graduate students are engaged as teaching assistants, whereby they complement the faculty members in the effective conduct of the tutorials and laboratory classes.
