Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology was established in the year 1987 as Regional Engineering College and was given the status of National Institute of Technology (Deemed University) by the Government of India on October 17, 2002 under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi (Now the Ministry of Education).Government of India has declared the Institute as “Institute of National Importance” under the act of Parliament-2007.  A large number of reputed Industrial houses in the country visit the Institution and select the final year students as Engineers/ Management Trainees. As one of the National Institutes of Technology (NIT), the Institute has the responsibility of providing high quality education in Engineering, Technology and Sciences to produce competent technical and scientific manpower for the country. The Institute offers BTech, MTech, MSc, MBA and PhD programmes in the several disciplines of engineering, technology and Sciences. 

1. A student admitted to a particular discipline of BTech will normally continue in that discipline till completion of the degree.

2. The provision of change of discipline of study of a student should be made after the completion of first two semesters (1^st year) provided vacancies/vacancy exist(s) in discipline(s).

3. The filling of vacancies for change of discipline should be done category wise (General, SC, ST or any other category notified by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt.of India, New Delhi).

4. A student is eligible to apply for change of discipline at the end of first year(after 2^nd semester) only, provided he/she satisfies the following criteria: (1) CGPA for General category students : greater than or equal to 7.50 in first attempt.;(2) CGPA for SC/ST category students: greater than or equal to 6.50 in first attempt.; (3) Earned credits at the end of 1^st year must be equal to the credits prescribed in the scheme of first and second semester (1^st year) of their studies.;  (4) Any credits earned through contact course, shall not be considered for discipline change. 

5. The change of discipline will be permitted strictly in order of merit as determined by the CGPA at the end of the first year subject to the limitation that (a) the actual number of students in the 3^rd semester in the branch to which transfer is to be made, should not exceed the sanctioned strength and (b) maximum 10% registered students in 3^rd semester of the discipline from which transfer is sought, will be allowed the change of discipline.

6. Application for a change of discipline must be made by intending eligible students in the prescribed form for this purpose. The Deputy Registrar (Academics) will call for application and the completed application forms must be submitted to him by the last date specified in the notification.

7. The alteration of choices will not be permitted after the last date.

8. Change of discipline shall be made strictly on the basis of inter-se-merit of the applicants, based on CGPA. Ties will be broken by JEE(main) rank of applicants.

1. Beautiful campus- The Campus of NITJ is quite beautiful. There is enough greenery in the campus. It has a big ground, basketball court, volleyball court, badminton courts in hostels. The IT building and administrative blocks are also good to look at. Hostel facility is good food is also good. There are a total 6 small hostels along with 3 mega hostels 3 are under construction. There are separate mess for vegetarian and non vegetarian students and they have option as well special food is offered twice a week. The campus has a very large gym as well.
2. Cultural & Technical Fest- Utkansh & Techniti, the cultural & technical fests of NITJ attract colleges from the whole of North India. You get a lot of opportunity to participate in various fun & technical activities during these fests.
3. Placements- The placements at NITJ are comparatively good for most of the branches. CS had the best placements followed by mechanical and even textile technology. So even if you are an average student you can get decent enough placement. Around 70% of students get placed in my course the highest package was 45 LPA offered by Microsoft and the lowest package was 4 LPA Average package was 8.57 in 2020 Microsoft, amazon, Deloitte, optum, Reliance Life industries, Samsung, Honda, adobe etc.
4. No ragging- There is almost no ragging at NITJ. There is separate hostel for 1st year students to stop ragging.

The Centre of Training & Placement of Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, which started its activities in December 1990, serves as a Central facility for all the Departments.

The city of Jalandhar is situated between the rivers Sutlej and Beas on National Highway 1. It is one of the important towns of Punjab and is known for rich educational, cultural and literary activities. It is an internationally renowned industrial centre for sports goods, leather goods and hand-tools.  The city is 370 kms away from Delhi on root to Amritsar and is easily accessible from Delhi by train or bus.  The Shatabdi Express trains plying from New Delhi in the morning at 07.20 hrs and in the evening at 16.30 hrs. are the best modes of travel to Jalandhar.  This train takes less than 5 hours to reach Jalandhar-City.
