About the Institute:
National Institute of Technology Manipur, a centrally funded institution is set up to impart quality technical education to various levels of higher learning. It is one of the ten newly set up NIT's by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India vide its order no. F.23-13-2009-TS-III dated 30th October 2009 and 3rd March 2010. It has been established to cater to the needs of the thousands of students from the North East and outside in the field of Technical Education With National Institute of Technology Agartala, as its mentor institute and tremendous support from the State Govt. of Manipur, NIT Manipur started its first session on 1st August, 2010. 

The Institute was first established under the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989. (Regd. No. 425/M/SR/2010). Later, NIT Manipur was declared as a full-fledged NIT along with nine other new NITs,through An Act of Parliament and notified under Govt. of India Gazette notification No. 28 0f 2012 dated 7th June 2012 and declared as an Institute of National Importance.

Following the principle that the key to excellence of any Institute lies in its bright student, the institute draws best talents from across the country through a cut-throat admission procedure which includes the Common Engineering Entrance Exam(CEEE) conducted by IITs and CBSE, effective from year 2013. The core aim of the institute is to infuse the students with diverse personalities along with a sense of co-operation which it done by encouraging the students to play a pro-active role in different affairs of institute. The curriculum facilitates a practical realization among students fraternity about importance of management & entrepreneurship in today's shrinking world. NIT Manipur was established in 2010 by Government of India and and bestowed with the status of deemed university by Ministry of Human Resource & Development. The college started its classes in 2010 and at present offers undergraduate courses in CE, ME, CSE, EEE & ECE. Identified as a center of excellence by Government of India, the institute constantly keeps on innovating itself to meet the demands of industry.

Rules For Change Branch:
Change of Branch

1.      Normally a student admitted to a particular branch of the undergraduate programme will continue studying in that branch till completion.

2.      However, in special cases the Institute may permit a student admitted through JEE to change from one branch of studies to another after the first two semesters. Such changes will be permitted, in accordance with the provisions laid down hereinafter.

3.      Only those students will be considered eligible for change of branch/programme after the second semester, who have completed all the common credits required in the first two semesters of their studies, in their first attempt, without having had to pass any course requirement in the supplementary and parallel examinations.

4.      Applications for a change of branch must be made by intending eligible students in the prescribed form. The academic section will call for applications at the end of second semester of each academic year and the completed forms must be submitted by the last date specified in the notification.

5.      Students may enlist their choices of branch/programme, in order of preference, to which they wish to change over. It will not be permissible to alter the choices after the application has been submitted.

6.      Change of branch shall be made strictly in order of merit of the applicants. For this purpose the CPI obtained at the end of the second semester shall be considered. In case of a tie, the JEE rank of the applicants will be considered.

7.      The applicants may be allowed a change in branch strictly in order of inter se merit, subject to the limitation that the strength of a branch should not fall below the existing strength by more than ten percent and should not go above the sanctioned strength by more than ten percent.

8.      All changes of branch made in accordance with the above rules will be effective from the third semester of the applicants concerned. No change of branch shall be permitted after this.

9.      All changes of branch will be final and binding on the applicants. No student will be permitted, under any circumstances, to refuse the change of branch offered.

Training & Placement:

About NITM T&P


The Institute has a training and placement cell under Training and Placement Officer with supporting staff for organizing on- campus recruitment process, Industrial training of the students, study tour etc. Industrial training after the end of 6th Semester examination is compulsory for all undergraduate students of all disciplines. The training and placement cell arranges campus interview for pre-final and final-year students. Students have been placed in Larsen & Toubro, Hewlett & Packard, Infosys, Philips, Tech Mahindra, Magnetti Marelli, IBM, Nokia Networks, Nomura Research Institute Financial Technologies India Pvt. Ltd., WIPRO,BPCL, TCS, MU-SIGMA, KEC International, Carbon Software Solution & AAA, HCL TSS, Huwaei, MPHASIS and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. Students are encouraged to participate in seminars, workshops and other academic competitions sponsored by Indian Society for Technical Education, Institution of Engineers (India), Imphal, Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Imphal, Local Centre and other institutions by the Training and Placement Cell. 

Industry And Alumni Relations:
The students actively participate in all co-curricular activities like Cultural cum Technical fest (OUGRI), games and sports, debate, essay competition, drama competition, NCC, NSS programmes etc. sponsored by the State Government, Central Government and other statutory bodies and the institute authority.

Imphal is the second largest airport in the North East region. Imphal is connected to KOLKATA , NEW DELHI , GUWAHATI, AIZAWL , DIMAPUR & SILCHAR by Air India, Jet Airways, Indigo, Kingfisher & NE Shuttles. Daily flights are available form Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati with more than 3 flights daily.

By Bus to Imphal

  • From Guwahati daily on the NH 39 via Dimapur and Kohima many private buses available.
  • From Dimapur daily on the NH 39 via Kohima Manipur many private buses available.
  • From Silchar daily on the NH 53 via Jiribam many private buses available.

By Train to Imphal 
There is no direct train service to Imphal. But travellers can travel upto Guwahati (478 km) or Dimapur (210 km) (nearest rail head from Imphal) and then rest by bus or by air.

How to Reach NIT Manipur? 
The Institute has two campus (Permanent and temporary). Permanent campus is located at Langol Lamphel and Temporary at Takyel. Both the campus are around 4-6 km from airport and within 3 km from bus stand. The Imphal City is also only 4-5 km from airport. Local Taxis and Autos are available at Airport and Bus stands.
