About the Institute:
National Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand is one among the ten newly sanctioned NITs in 2009. It came into existence in 2010. The Institute is fully funded by Government of India under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), New Delhi. The Institute is ranked 186 in NIRF ranking 2021. The Srinagar campus of NIT Uttarakhand is situated in the beautiful valley of Srinagar (Garhwal) at Government Polytechnic. The Institute’s campus houses Department of Sciences and Humanities, Class Rooms, Library, Dispensary, Server Room, Auditorium, Playground and Hostels, Engineering Departments and Administrative offices and one cricket ground. The Sumari campus of NIT Uttarakhand is being built at the cost of Rs. 675 Crores at village Sumari. New laboratories in various Departments have been constructed with advanced facilities. The Institute offers full time B. Tech, M.Tech and PhD Program in Science and Humanities, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering.

Students (except First Year) may opt out of Mess at the beginning of any month; however balance Mess Advance shall be refunded at the end of semester and only after no dues certificate. Seat Rent, Mess fee Advance and Electricity and Water Charges are to be paid separately and will not be adjusted against amount paid to CSAB. Once the hostel facility is availed, the Seat Rent and Electricity and Water Charges will not be refunded after cancellation.

Academic Structure:

NIT Uttarakhand offers B.Tech, M.Tech and a Ph.D. programmes. The Institute is conducting B. Tech. programmes in five different branches with an intake of 36 students in each branch. Following are the branches for B.Tech courses:

The academic structure of the Institute has many salient features:

 Freedom to complete programme in VII semesters and going to industry for one semester internship
Rules For Change Branch:

Branch change at the end of first year

The following regulations apply for change of branch at the end of first year, i.e. end of the 2nd semester.

(a) A student is eligible to apply for change of discipline at the end of first year only, provided he/she satisfies the following criteria:

     i. CGPA : 7.50

     ii. Earned credits at the end of first academic session: ≥ 80

(b) Change of the discipline will be permitted strictly in the order of merit as determined by their CGPA at the end of first year subject to the limitation that the actual number of students in the third semester in the discipline to which the transfer is to be made, should not exceed the sanctioned strength.

(c) For a student with CGPA 9.5 or more, even if a vacancy does not exist, he/she will be permitted to change provided the strength in the discipline to which the change is being sought does not exceed by 5% of the approved strength.

Facilities:

Medical Facility – Dispensary and medical insurance is provided by the Institute. In case of any emergency, Institute Ambulance is also provided to students for 24 hours.

Gymnasium - The institute has a Gymnasium equipped with necessary facilities to maintain health of students.

Power Back-up - The whole campus is under complete power back-up (4×30 kVA DG sets).

Internet Facility - The whole campus is equipped with Wi-Fi facility with High-Speed internet connection.

Institute Mess - Special care is taken to provide clean and hygienic surrounding in the premises of the mess. Food quality and water purity is checked regularly by concerned authorities from time to time.

Conference Hall - The Institute has a Conference Hall having capacity of 70 peoples. It is used for conducting meetings, seminars, workshops, etc.

Book Bank Facility - The Library houses a total collection of over 33,500 printed books (with 6000 titles) which includes Text Books and Reference Books in different subjects.

ATM - An ATM of SBI is installed in the Polytechnic campus of the Institute.

Canteen - The canteen of the institute serves cafeteria items at a reasonable price.

Auditorium - The institute has a Multi-purpose auditorium having capacity of 300 persons that is used for seminars, workshops, screening movies, and many more.

Open Air Theater - An open air theater is established in the ITI campus of the Institute which hoisted various major events of Cliffesto.
Student Life at Institute:

The institute provides a homely environment for students. The institute has adopted a principle of "Homes away from Home". Hostels have been provided for the students with all the necessary facilities. The institute provides accommodation facility for more than 800 students in the campus. Wi-Fi facility is provided in the hostel for Internet access. There is a separate hostel for girls. Matron/Nurse stays in girls’ hostel for 24 hours.

There are various indoor and outdoor sports facilities, such as, Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Cricket, Table–Tennis, Chess, Carom, gymnasium and many more. Sports arena has well-equipped facilities so that the students can practice at night also. Institute has the facility of adventurous sports activities like ice skiing at Auli and rafting. Sports meet, Departmental & Institutional gathering are the mega sports festival in our institute.

The institute offers all graduating students an opportunity to participate in the campus placement program. The Institute strives to make the best possible match between recruiters and students. The Training and placement cell at NIT Uttarakhand maintains active association and excellent contacts with reputed private and public sector organizations. The B. Tech. students have been recruited in various organizations of the country. The Training and placement cell is in an active process to match the needs of the industry with the aspirations of the students.

The Training and Placement Cell of National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand aims to provide the students with a platform for using their technical acumen to gain valuable experience by working in the mainstream industry through summer trainings and semester long internships. It also provides necessary guidance to the students in career planning and personality development organizing various workshops on soft skills development from time to time. In addition to this, various online test modules on technical knowledge, general aptitude, etc. are also conducted.

During the academic year 2020-21, many renowned companies visited the campus. To name a few, these included L & T Group, Wipro, IBM, EXL services, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), Samsung R&D and many more. Students have shown a keen interest for jobs in IT and Software, Management and Consultancy firms, Educational Organizations and even in Start-Ups. The core disciplines attract students with strong technical know-how, while other sectors open doors to students interested in dynamic work-profiles and aptitude-based skill requirements.

Industry And Alumni Relations:
Industry interaction cell involves industry experts in professional development of students by organizing seminars and lectures time to time. Also, industry requirements are accessed regularly to improve the employability of graduates.
Recreational/Extra Curricular activities:

A taste for Music, Dance, Movies, Photography, Creative writing, Astronomy, Cycling and Mountaineering, Literary, Drama is inculcated in students through different clubs. This helps in blooming the personality of the students.

The Council of student activities provides students of NIT Uttarakhand opportunities for involvement, leadership experience and the ability to create fun and exciting programs that enhance the energy of campus life.
Location and Accessibility:
Temporary campus is located at Srinagar (Garhwal). Srinagar is 105 Km from Rishikesh on NH-58 heading towards Badrinath (193 Km from Srinagar). The nearest railway stations are Rishikesh and Haridwar. Nearest airport is situated at Jolly Grant, Dehradun which is 125 Km away from Srinagar. Taxis/Buses are available from Airport as well as the railway station for Srinagar. It takes 3-4 hours to reach Srinagar from Rishikesh.
