About the Institute:

Hearty Welcome to the the vibrant and dynamic  Academic  community of IIIT Kottayam ! 

Indian Institute of Information Technology Kottayam, at Valavoor, Kottayam, Kerala http://www.iiitkottayam.ac.in/  is one among the 20 new IIITs that have been proposed across the country by the Government of India. The institute is implemented on  public-private partnership (PPP) mode with the initial infrastructure funding from the Central Government, State government and Private Partners. The Institute started admitting students from the academic year  2015-16  and now functioning in its own campus at Pala, Kottayam. The Institute is declared as an Institution of National Importance by the Government of India and managed under the provisions of IIIT(PPP) Act 2017.

The scenic campus of the Institute  is located in the southern part of Kerala, commonly referred to as God’s Own Country  and spread over in fifty three acres of land. The nearest Airport is Cochin International Airport (COK) and Kottayam ( KTYM) is the nearest  Railway Station.

The Institution offers specialized courses covering all major research domains of Computer Science and Engineering as well as  Electronics and Communication Engineering viz Data science, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, Cyber Security , Parallel Computing, HPC, Programming languages, Bioinformatics, signal processing, communication, Networking, VLSI design , Embedded Systems , Computer Vision, Applied Electromagnetics and so forth, as part of the 4 year B.Tech / BTech-Hons program with equal emphasis on research, innovation and incubation.


In addition, Institute offers MTech programs for working professionals  in AI & DS, Cybersecurity as well as Ph.D program in CSE , ECE and Mathematics.

 Accordingly , the initial payment ( First Semester ) for the admission-2021 shall be Rs. 99,000/- as tuition fee, Rs 23,100/- as hostel maintenance  / facility fee, Rs. 21,000/- as mess advance & Rs. 950 towards medical insurance.
Academic Structure:

Currently,  B.Tech course in Computer Science and Engineering, B.Tech course in Electronics and Communication, and B. Tech course in Computer Science with specialisation in Cyber Security are offered at IIIT Kottayam. Senior Faculty members  from other Institutions of National Importance like , IITs, IISERs, NITs  etc are mentoring the young and vibrant faculty team of IIIT Kottayam . Only those faculty with PhD degree from reputed national Institutions and having a flare for teaching and research are engaged by IIIT Kottayam. 

IIIT Kottayam follows  an innovative and dynamic curriculum at par with other Institutions of National Importance with  focus on the demands of industry , innovation and  research. Most of the core courses are covered in first two years and the the second half of the B.Tech program largely comprises of need based courses focusing on the demands of the the industry as well as thrust  on innovation and research. Selected one credit courses are offered by eminent industry professionals which adds more value to the curriculum. 

B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering
The programme is designed to build a strong foundation in Computer Science and Engineering that includes hardware, simulation and emulation. The programme has a blend of Core computer Science courses and elective courses which includes Computer science electives, electronics elective, mathematical electives, science elective, humanities electives and management electives. The B.Tech CSE programme starts with computation oriented courses and the initial four semesters are focused on creating a strong Computer Science foundation which enables the student to harness the required engineering skills for problem solving using computer science.
                                                                                           B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering
The programme is designed to equip the students with necessary core competency to succeed in their career and focuses both on Hardware and software. The programme has a blend of core electronics courses and elective courses which include electronics electives, computer science electives, mathematics electives, science electives, humanities electives and management electives. This curriculum is designed for creating strong Electrionics foundation in the first four semesters and to pursue advanced stream electives from semester V onwards.

The programme is designed to build a strong foundation in Computer Engineering and Cyber Security which includes hardware, simulation and emulation. Facilities:

The academic activities are conducted at the permanent campus of  IIIT Kottayam at Pala, Valavoor. Students shall be joining and reporting at this Permanent Campus. 

Hostel: Hostel Facility is available for Boy's and Girls students. Students run the cooperative mess based on their menu in hostels. The girl students will be accommodated in the hostel within the campus. The boy students of the First year ( except for a few  on first come first serve basis ) will be accommodated in different rented hostels outside the campus ( with in 03 to 5 Kms) and the institute will provide conveyance ( to and fro)  free of cost. All students will be  accommodated inside the campus hostels itself from the second year onwards. 

Medical Facility : IIIT-K students have access to the round the clock medical facility in the Institute Health Centre.  Ambulance facility is extended to handle emergency cases. Medical facilities are given vital importance and each student is given complete care through the Institute Health Centre.

State of the art Labs/Infrastructures: IIIT Kottayam continues constructing buildings and establishing research labs based on the requirement of faculty/industries. Constructing several research labs such as IoT Cloud research lab, Computer Networking lab, 3D printing design lab, and so forth are on progress at IIIT Kottayam for improving the practical knowledge of students.  Selective students could visit leading industries (including AIM-Aayog, Intel, CDAC, NIWE) and international Universities such as University of Innsbruck, Austria, University of Klagenfurt Austria, Technical University Munich Germany, University of New Brunswick Canada,  and so forth where our faculties are collaborated with research ideas.

Library :IIIT Kottayam has a comprehensive collection of Engineering & Science text books, literature, reports, and management  books at its Library. The Institute has a subscription to IEEE CSDL, MATLAB access and support , magazines, newspapers and databases, which can be accessed free-of-charge by all Students. The Library is enriched with a vast collection of print and electronic resources in various area of interests. All library related resources are available on an open source digital platform - Koha.

All efforts are made to ensure a vibrant and creative students life at par with other Institutions of National Institutions within the constrains of the ongoing construction activities of the second phase of infrastructure development.

Life at IIIT Kottayam: IIIT Kottayam ensures a 100 percent anti-ragging campus. The new comers of this institute are well-treated without inequity and gender bias. Tutors are assigned to each students in order to ensure a FEEL-AT-HOME environment during their stay at IIIT Kottayam (right from their initial stay at the campus). A high-speed internet connection through NKN network and the digital library connections / IEEE subscriptions keep motivating the IIIT Kottayam students for developing innovative solutions during their stay.

Skill Development: IIIT Kottayam offers several forum for students to organize and develop their skill sets. Financial Assistance:
IIIT Kottayam encourages the students to apply to various agencies offering financial assistance. Currently, no direct financial assistance is available from the institution. All the students including SC/ST/OBC have to pay the tuition fee, hostel fee , Mess fee etc. The students should apply for scholarship, bank loans, and fee concessions  etc. directly to the respective State Government / other Authorities of their choice. Such applications are always recommended and forwarded by the Institute for the benefits of the students.

The students of IIITKottayam are exposed to real world problems to make them ready for Internships/placements from the first semester itself.

Entrepreneurial Ecosystem: The curriculam of IIIT Kottayam is designed in order to impart an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the campus. For instance, AIC-IIITKottayam, an incubation centre of IIIT Kottayam, is a vital resource to IIIT Kottayam students; AIC-IIITKottayam is a 10000 sq.feet incubation unit supported by AIM-NITI Aayog of India to the tune of Rs. 3.77 crore.The MSME incbation centre is also sanctioned to the Institute. IIIT Kottayam, thus, helps students to continue championing in their career and attain goals with an entrepreneurial support. It provides tens of thousands of opportunities for them to interact with industrial experts, including MSMEs to MNCs.

Placements / Internships: Leading industries keep lining up for conducting interviews and placement/internship drives to our students. In fact, the students of IIIT Kottayam could easily attract industries for pursuing internship during their summer/winter vacations (4 months per year). Most often, these internships do lead to their future placement offers. In the previous years, our students have attracted stipend during interships  ranging from Rs.15000 to Rs.50000/- per month from leading industries, including Bosch, TCS, NIWE, US Technologies, and so forth. A full fledged Training and placement cell is functioning in the Institute  and all the students of the first three batches  except those opted for higher studies were placed . WIPRO, TCS, NISSAN DIGITAL, GADGEON , MIND TREE, MPHASIS,SOTI , RELIANCE JIO , CAPGEMINI, INFOSYS , SAP LABS etc are the leading recruiters, Giving the credit to the institute to achieve very good placements for the first three batch of Students with 30% of the students getting more than one offer.
