About the Institute:

 Institute

IIIT, Pune was established as a Society in the year 2016-17 under Societies Act of 1860. In August 2017, the institute was re-created by an Act of Parliament (23 of 2017 dated 09th Aug, 2017 viz. Indian Institute of Information Technology (PPP) Act of 2017. The institute is also declared as an Institute of National Importance by the same Act. Besides the Govt. of India the other partners in the institute are the Govt. of Maharashtra and two industry partner(s) (yet to be nominated). The initial outlay of the project was Rs.128 Crores be borne by the three stakeholders, viz., the Central Government, State Government (Maharashtra), and Industry Partners in the ratio of 50%, 35%, and 15% respectively. 

Government of Maharashtra has allocated 100 acres of land in the year 2015 in Nanoli, Talegaon, Pune District for establishing IIIT Pune.

IIIT Pune is currently operating from a transit campus, near Bopdev Ghat, Kondhwa Annexe, Yewalewadi, Pune. The IIIT Pune is functioning within the Trinity Academy of Engineering College, Pune Campus. The resources, such as Hostel, Messes, Sports facilities, Canteen, etc., besides the Class rooms, Laboratories are shared with IIIT Pune.

Rules For Change Branch:
Norms for change of branch for undergraduate (B.Tech.) Programme

1.     Special cases the Institute may permit a student to change from one branch of studies to another after the first two semesters. Such changes will be permitted, in accordance with the provisions laid down hereinafter.

 

2.     Only those students will be considered eligible for change of branch/programme after the second semester, who have completed and passed all the common credits required in the first two semesters of their studies in their first attempt.

 

3.     Applications for a change of branch/programme must be made by intending eligible students in the prescribed form. The academic section will call for applications at the end of second semester of each academic year and the completed forms must be submitted by the last date specified in the notification.

 

4.     Students may enlist their choices of branch/programme, in order of preference, to which they wish to change over. It will not be permissible to alter the choices after the application has been submitted.

 

5.     Change of branch/programme shall be made strictly in order of merit of the applicants. For this purpose, the CGPA obtained at the end of the second semester shall be considered. In case of a tie, the JEE rank of the applicants will be considered.

 

6.     Only those students, who have completed the common credits required in the first two semesters in their first attempt with a minimum CGPA of 8.5 shall be eligible for making the application for a change of branch.

 

7.     The maximum number of students admitted in any discipline in the third semester through the branch change rule shall be decided by the Chairman, Senate on batch to batch basis.

 

8.     The applicants may be allowed a change in branch/programme, strictly in order of inter merit, subject to the limitation that the strength of a branch should not fall below the existing strength by more than ten percent and should not go above the sanctioned strength by more than ten percent.

 

9.     All changes of branch/programme made in accordance with the above rules will be effective from the third semester of the applicants concerned. No change of branch/programme shall be permitted after this.

 

10.  All changes of branch/programme will be final and binding on the applicants. No student will be permitted, under any circumstances, to refuse the change of branch/programme offered.

      ii.        Communication Technology Laboratory

The objective of this lab is to understand basic theories of digital and analog communication student’s deep knowledge in digital communication systems at the practical level so that students can understand the logical, analytical, and mathematical background of the communication system. This lab focuses on understanding the fundamental concepts of signal flow in a digital communication system. Detailed analysis of TDM, Pulse modulations, digital modulation techniques, sampling and reconstruction, source coding techniques, Error-control coding techniques, the error performance of a digital communication system in presence of noise, to design and implement analog/ digital modulator and demodulator and to understand the applications of balanced modulator circuit and other interferences are done.

The goal of this lab is to make students conversant with the designing of digital systems, and programmable aspects of microprocessors and microcontrollers. For implementation of digital systems, digital trainers and logic analyzers are available.

The Language Laboratories are becoming items better and better valued within educational institutions since the functions and possibilities they offer are much higher than the ones in the traditional teaching-learning system. Moreover it is necessary to distinguish between language laboratory, language method and control software. A method in a procedural that guides teachers when, in turn, control software is a computer programme that is used to control students' computers and to know what they are doing at all times. Instead, a language lab goes beyond, a language lab can integrate the method we want to use allowing further development of a large number of different activities in the classroom, the communication between teachers and students, using multimedia material, etc. taking into account at the same time the functions of control software. In this laboratory there are 20 computer systems .

Presently, as per the register, the Library has 3665 books (textbooks, reference books, competitive exams related books and others). With 403 titles in two branches of engineering i.e. Electronics & Communication Engineering, and Computer Science Engineering, , at Undergraduate level.

 

Institute has also partnered with Coursera to provide free courses from top-rated institutes as a part of its COVID initiative. The subscription consists of various specializations & courses, all available free of cost for our students.

 

The library is spacious and divided into different sections to facilitate proper utilization of available resources. Library has been automated with I SLIM software and provides a good number of services like book search, reservation, renewal and account checking details through Web OPAC. All the available books and magazines are classified by DDC – 23nd edition, and enabled bar-coded circulation services. The library is making constant efforts to provide relevant resources to its users by using different technologies.

Recreational and Extra Curricular Activities


Many congratulations to Tanmoy Modi and his team MMH from IIIT Pune for winning Final at Toycathon 2021.

Various recreational and extracurricular activities were organized at IIIT Pune during academic year 2018-2019.

Students of IIIT Pune participated in inter IIIT sports and Techno Cultural Meets which were organized at different IIITs.

Two Gold and Two Bronze medals ware earned in all India games and sports festival 'Spardha 2018' at IIIT BHU in Table Tennis, Chess, Carom and Athletics.

A team named “Calm Down It‟s Just Genjutsu” from Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Pune has secured 1st place at Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2019 (Software Edition) held on 2nd and 3rd March 2019 at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal. The team had 6 students; Disha Dudhal, Devasish Mahato, Yogesh Karan, Shivam Dev Singh, Aravind Unnikrishanan, and Dhanashree Regavade and two mentors. A price money worth Rs. 1 Lakh was awarded to the team.

Also, Cricket Team of IIIT Pune participated in various cricket tournaments organized by Engineering colleges in Pune.

The Institute follows the guideline issued by GOI to provide the Scholarship to students.  Various merit-cum-means and state scholarship scholarships are disbursed during the year 2020-21.

Training & Placement:

a)   Placement

IIIT Pune successfully culminated the placements drive for the 2021-2022 batch, setting the highest placement record, creating new strides in placements of the B.Tech students for yet another consecutive year.

As per the final placement report, the highlights of the placement drive could be seen with the top-notch companies like Nutanix , Media.net , Codenation and were offered with a highest package of 40 LPA to 30 LPA  respectively. In addition, while Robert Bosch and Texas Instruments picked few of the proficient engineers from the institute in the package of 17.2 Lakhs INR per annum, Paytm offered the annual package of about 16 Lakhs INR per annum to the IIIT Pune graduates. Meanwhile, Increff also emerged as one of the top paying recruiters offering about 16.5 Lakhs INR per annum to the students. Other prominent recruiters who gladly embraced the IIIT Pune graduates as their prospective employees were ZS Associates, Publicis Sapient and many more.

Indian Institute of Information Technology Pune (IIITP) successfully began the campus placements of Graduate Programme 2021-22 and the Post Graduate Programme in July securing 100% placements until now.

The Career Development and Corporate Relations Centre (CDCRC) of IIIT Pune hosted a webinar series for the students of final, pre-final and sophomore year of college to guide and mentor them with proper career advices and help them make appropriate decisions based on experience and knowledge of various experts from the industry. This webinar series started from 21st May and consisted of nine different webinars on various topics ranging from paradigm shift in the placement scenarios, start-up culture, digital India to ML, cyber security and placement strategies. On 30th May  (CDCRC) hosted the last webinar and marked an end to this webinar series which was only first one of its kind. Summary of Webinars are as follows: 

Industry oriented approach to learning: Held on 21st May, 2020 this webinar marked the beginning of the first webinar series by CDCRC, IIIT Pune.  Mr. Navin Williams was the invited speaker for this webinar.

Navigating Placements post Covid: The second webinar of this series was held on 22nd May and the invited speaker was Joshua David MD, Manager APAC at Hexaware. He is a skilled HR professional with broad experience in aspects of Talent Acquisition like - Recruitment (Lateral and University hiring), including front line hiring and vendor management.

Employability skills: The third webinar of this series was held on 23rd May with one of the experts of her field, Mr. Mandeep Bagchi. He is working with Tata Consultancy Services Ltd as a Campus Lead, Talent Acquisition Group. 

Industry in post lockdown: Held on 24th May, this webinar was about how the IT industry is coping up with the challenges posed by lockdown. The invited speaker, Prof. Om Prakash Shukla is the Principal at National Defence Academy.

Cyber security: The fifth webinar of this series, held on 25th May was led by  Mr. Aditya Vats. It was about the most trending domain in the IT industry, Cyber security.   

Recent technology Trends: The sixth webinar was hosted on the Recent technology trends with the IT experts at Persistent on 26th May.  

HR practices during pandemic: The seventh webinar of this series was presented by Archana Chintagunta, the lead HR at Recode solutions on 27th May, informing the attendees of the latest trends and recent changes in the HR Practices during COVID and what factors affect the most crucial stage of an interview.

Preparation of Placements during Covid: Held on 29th May, this webinar was about how the students should focus on the placement preparation and cope up with the challenges posed by lockdown. The invited speaker, Mr.  Swarnendu Halder the Lead- Talent Acquisition at Flock.  

Entrepreneurship avenues for the future: The ninth and the last webinar of  this series was presented by Mr. Umang Shukla on 30th May, informing the  attendees of the latest trends in the start-up culture and what factors affect or  govern the growth or decline of these start-ups.  

Cloud Introduction: Held on 23rd November, 2020 this webinar marked the beginning of the second webinar series by CDCRC, IIIT Pune. Mr. Tarun  Kansal was the invited speaker for this webinar. Webinar was organised to help students to look for better opportunities in cloud computing for jobs as well as further studies.  

Placement Strategies: The second webinar of this series was held on 24th November and the invited speaker was Shreya Sahu. She is a graduate from IIIT Gwalior from where she received her dual master‟s degree in computer science.   

Higher Education Opportunities in Germany & ECE Flyer:  The third webinar of this series was held on 25th November with one of the experts of her field, Niketa Dedhia. She is the Founder and Principal Consultant at the Exponent Consultancy Services (ECS), USA.   

Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence: Held on 26th November, this webinar was about two of the most trending domains of today’s IT industry. The invited speaker, Mr. Pranav Sharma is a senior data scientist with more than fifteen years of experience in IT and is currently working with Warner Media. 

How to prepare for a job: The fifth webinar of this series, held on 30th November was led by Mr. Vaibhav Jain. It was about the preparations one is required to do to get ready for a job hunt while still being in college.  

Digital India & 5G Researches: The first day of the last month of 2020 hosted a webinar on Digital India and 5G Research with the very reputed Dr.  B M Baweja.  

Start Up Culture: The seventh and the last webinar of this series was  presented by Mr. Rajeev Shukla on 6th December, informing the attendees of  the latest trends in the start-up culture and what factors affect or govern the  growth or decline of these start-ups.

All these efforts on the part of students and faculty resulted in a very good placement. The bar graph shows the increase in the companies who visited this year in comparison to previous year, whereas the Pie Charts  show the company wise placement of different batches in IIIT Pune

Recreational/Extra Curricular activities:

a)   Student Training Programme(STP)

The Student training programme has been organized by Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University (CSVTU) Bhilai in association with IIIT Pune under the third phase of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-III) during 14th September – 30th October 2020 and 4th March- 29th March 2021. Student Training Programme (conducted online) was designed to be generic in nature for satisfying the needs of students and research scholars of Computer Science and Engineering(CSE), and Electronics and Communication Engineering(ECE) of various Engineering Colleges affiliated to CSVTU Bhilai), to increase their programming skills and analysis capabilities.

The faculty members of Indian Institute of Information Technology Pune were the resource speakers for the programme. Around 276 participants, including faculties, PG students and Research scholars from different CSVTU approved institutions and members from industry had participated. The programme was coordinated by Dr Rahul Dixit, and Dr. Sandeep Mishra, Assistant Professors, IIIT Pune.

b)   Activities at Innovation & Incubation Cell (IIC) 

Institute organized a 5 hours hands-on session for the students on Applied Machine Learning with Python scheduled on 24th Oct 2020. Prototype submission from students on themes such IoT based technologies (e.g. Security & Surveillance systems, ICT, cyber-physical systems, Blockchain, Cognitive computing, Cloud computing, AI & ML etc.

For the implementation of NISP 2019, the Institute developed a roadmap that included the following points:

      Formation of Innovation and Incubation Cell and registration of the same at MoE Innovation Cell (MIC) portal

      Formation of E-Cell and I-Cell

      Faculty nomination by IIIT Pune for NISP implementation

      Creation of Section-8 company at Institute level

c)   Ideathon 2k21

 

               IDEATHON was the first-ever flagship event hosted by the Entrepreneurship Cell of the institute, from 7th to 21st February 2021. It was for the first time that an entrepreneurship promoting event was hosted by the institute club. IDEATHON provided a platform for students across the globe to showcase their ideas and get them evaluated by an experienced jury. The main objective of the event was to promote technical and rational thinking among the students.


The registrations commenced on 7th February 2021 on an online hackathon platform -DevFolio and the portal was open till 14th February 2021 where the participants could take part in a team of 1-4 members. The event was divided into two rounds where participants submitted the problem they are addressing and an idea to solve it in the first round. The submissions of the first round were deeply evaluated by the jury members which consisted of:-

1. Mr. Pranveer Sengar - Director - IT, FM Logistics, Pune

2. Dr. Bhupendra Singh - Assistant Professor, IIIT Pune

3. Ms. Yesoda Bhargava - Teaching Assistant, IIIT Pune

 

The event witnessed tremendous interest from students across the globe. With over 500 applicants from over 130 colleges (including 30+ IITs, NITs and IIITs) in over 150 cities across 4 countries (viz. India, Malaysia, Nepal and Indonesia). Since the theme was open, the ideas ranged over various domains including a vaccine storage container, automatic cereal dispenser, online platform to educate about several diseases, and others.

d)   Startup

Umang Kalra, Final Year CSE student and his team has founded a startup in December 2020, which developed aerial robotics and automation and IoT systems in various disciplines. It has been incubated at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu and will be sponsored by the Government of India under Remunerative Approaches for Agriculture and Allied Sectors Rejuvenation (RAFTAAR) scheme.


e)   Silk Route Quiz

The Entrepreneurship Cell of the institute hosted the Silk Route Quiz, an entrepreneurship-based quiz, from 19th to 21th March 2021 on Dare2Compete. The event was organized to spread awareness among students about the basics of finance and startups. Dr. Chandrakant Guled, Assistant Professor, IIIT Pune was the Faculty  Coordinator.

 

The event saw tremendous participation of over 400 students from more than 170 colleges and organizations across the country. Also, the quiz page on Dare2Compete had over 95000 views which was a huge success.

The results were declared on March 21th, 2021 after the All India Finals Round. Akash Verma (IIM Shillong) won the first prize and  a cash reward of 7000. Aditya Singh and Sharat Chandar won the second and third prize with cash rewards of 5000 and 3000 respectively.


f)    InfInITy 2k20

It is the institute's flagship coding contest hosted every year on CodeChef. A three-hour coding session with ACM style scoring. InfInITy started in 2017. The recent edition of the event (A Rated Contest) was held on 4th Nov 2020 with 2229 international participants and 12000+ submissions. Students from some of the renowned Universities of the world participated. The event catered challenging algorithmic and logical programming problems for the users to solve in a limited time of 2.5 hrs and battle for the prize pool of INR 15,000.

g)   75th Anniversary of Independence

Prime Minister of India, Shree Narendra Modi on 12th March 2021 inaugurated 'Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' in Ahmedabad to mark 75 years of India's Independence. The Mahotsav is a series of events to be organised by the government to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence. Prime minister also launched various other cultural and digital initiatives for the India@75 celebrations. In this context EBSB Club of IIIT Pune in association with EBSB Club of IIIT Trichy organized two online expert lectures on 12th March,, 2021. More than 130 students and teachers from IIIT Pune and IIIT Trichy attended the event online. The speaker invited by IIIT Trichy was Prof. R. Gururaj, Associate Professor, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, NIT Trichy who delivered a lecture on the theme entitled:- “Unity of Purpose”.

 

Mr. Shirish Shridhar Apte, Career Counsellor,  Pune was the speaker for the event. He delivered his speech on the theme entitled:- “United We Stand & Divided We Fall”. Dr. Chandrakant  Guled, Assistant Professor, IIIT Pune was the event coordinator.

h)   Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB): EBSB Club Activity was held under the programme “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB)” by MHRD in IIIT Pune on 27th May 2020 online. In this event students were taught words and sentences used in day to day conversations in the Tamil language (Paired State Language), a Tamil conversational act was presented and later explained in English.

i)    400th  Prakash Purab Samaroh

EBSB Club of IIIT Pune in association with EBSB Club of IIIT Trichy organized an online essay writing competition on 31th March 2021 on the Biography of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Top three essays won a cash reward of 1,500, 1,000 and 700 respectively.  More than 53 students and teachers from IIIT Pune and IIIT Trichy attended the event online. 

Dr. Chandrakant Guled and Dr. Bhupendra Singh, Assistant Professors of IIIT Pune were the event coordinators.

 

j)    Other Events organized by the Students

The following events were organized by the students:

      Code Chronicles 1.0: IIIT Pune's 𝐁𝐢𝐓 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧, along with IIIT Bhopal's 𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐞, organized 𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬𝟏.𝟎, the first of its kind unique coding event organised by 2 IIIT's in collaboration with each other on 19th June, 2020.

      Online Fundraising Campaign organized by the student’s body of IIIT Pune, during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Month of April and May 2020. Online events, quizzes and games were organized for the same and the registration amount collected was transferred to the PM Cares Fund. Various webinars were also organized during this period that included talks of doctors and  NGO’s involved in the fight against COVID 19

 

Celebration of Important National Events

a)   Yoga Day

International Yoga Day was observed on 21st June 2020 by arranging a motivational session and demonstration of Yoga by Mr Gaurav Jain, Founder trustee of Vinyas Yoga Studio, Gwalior. Faculties, Students and staff attended the online session and practiced various yoga postures.

b)   Constitution Day

Constitution day (Samvidhan Divas) was celebrated on 26th November 2020 to honor the adoption of the Constitution of India on 26th November 1949. The Director, Faculty, and Staff took the pledge and read the preamble of the constitution.

 

c)   Independence Day

The institute celebrated the flag hoisting ceremony on Independence Day with Trinity Academy of Engineering College in 2020.

d)   Republic Day
The Institute celebrated the flag hoisting on Republic Day at the campus.

 

e)   Hindi Pakhwada

Hindi Pakhwada was organized from 14th to 28th September 2020. The programme started with a painting competition. Various competitions were organized for the students in collaboration with Hindi Samiti, whose names are as follows along with their organizer:

The organization of these various competitions gives a new direction to the promotion of the state language. Hindi Pakhwada was made very popular due to the enthusiastic participation of the students in all the competitions. In Hindi Pakhwada, more than 50 students participated in various competitions. The faculties in Hindi cell Prof. Ritu Tiwari, Dr. Chandrakant Guled, Dr. Bhupendra Singh, Dr. Rahul Dixit, and Dr. Anagha Khiste supervised the events.

f)    National Youth Day

National Youth Day was observed on 12thJanuary, 2021 by organizing a motivational lecture online for faculties and students on the theme entitled:- “The Message of Vivekananda to Youth”. Webinar focused on Swami Vivekananda’s great journey; his work towards the Nation and society; and his message to the youth to be a good citizen of India.

Prof. Varadraj Bapat, Professor, Finance and Accounts, IIT Bombay was the speaker for the event. Dr. Chandrakant Guled, Assistant Professor, IIIT Pune was the event coordinator.

 

g)   Parakram Diwas

Parakram Diwas was celebrated on 23rd January, 2021 by organizing a motivational lecture online for faculty and students on the theme entitled:- “Dedicated to the Nation: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose”. Webinar focused on Netaji's historical journey, his work for the Nation and society and learnings from Netaji as a student.

 

Shri. Shrikant Joshi, History Convener, Demos Humanities & Research Foundation, Pune was the speaker for the event. Dr. Chandrakant Guled, Assistant Professor, IIIT Pune was the event coordinator.

  

h)  International Mother Tongue Day

International Mother Tongue Day was observed on 21st February, 2021. The institute organized a motivational lecture online for faculties and students on the theme entitled:- “Mother Tongue & Culture”. Webinar focused on the importance of Mother Tongue in a person’s growth. Mother tongue is also crucial in enhancing critical thinking, skills to learn a second language and literacy skills. Dr. Prashant Sathe, Professor, BMCC College, Pune was the speaker for the event. Dr. Chandrakant Guled, Assistant Professor, IIIT Pune was the event coordinator.

 

On February 22, 2021, a Poetry Competition was organized to celebrate International Mother Tongue Day. Prof. Om Vikas, Ex-Director ABV-IIITM was the chief guest on the second day of International Mother Tongue Day celebrations. Prof. Om Vikas, in his talk, explored points such as the importance of meditation, how students can contribute to nation building. Students were made aware about the personal lives of many research scientists who were successful in their lives.

A poetry competition was held. Top 20 poems were selected and among those, top 3 poems were awarded.

 

i)    International Women’s Day

Institute celebrated International Women's Day on 8th March, 2021 by organizing an online motivational lecture on the theme entitled:- “Awakened Women's Power”. Women’s empowerment is the most crucial for the overall development of a country. Mrs. Bageshree Manthalkar of Surajya Sawarngin Vikas Prakalp, Pune was the speaker for the event. Dr. Chandrakant Guled, Assistant Professor, IIIT Pune and Ms. Yasoda Bhargava, were the event coordinators.

   

j) Relief to COVID-19 affected people

    Two programmes were launched by the institute

     Job for Migrant and Local Workers:

The institute provides jobs to the migrant and local workers even during the time of the pandemic with safe shelters for them. We are also ensuring social distance and all safe practices to be followed by the workers. They are working for the building construction of the campus at Nanoli, Pune.

     Help to Underprivileged Areas:

Our faculty and staff members are actively donating food packets to the poor in the underprivileged areas and needy in the ongoing pandemic. They are also educating the public on how to effectively prevent the spread of the virus.

     Donation to the PM Cares Fund

Staff and faculty members of the institute donated two days' salary. Rs.1,51,051 was collected and donated to PM Cares fund to fight against COVID 19.
