 Established in 1955 by visionary-industrialist Mr. B.M. Birla, it is today one of the premier engineering destinations in India. Campus Recruitment Program 2020-21

Overview

The last 66 years have seen Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra growing by leaps and bounds. The institute has not only established itself as a forerunner in technical education but has also left deep imprints of its presence in the country and society. The pool of talent and aspirations that the students carry along makes BIT Mesra one of the most sought-after institutes in India. The high expectations that the industry holds from BIT Mesra is a direct reflection of the high benchmarks of excellence set by its students. First and foremost, we would like to thank our recruiters for continuing to demonstrate their faith in BIT Mesra. We hope to build stronger relationships with our recruiters and continue to take BIT Mesra to greater heights.

Total number of recruiters visited BIT Mesra till 15-7-2021 is 143, which has generated 746 numbers of Full Time Employments (including all Campuses) and 365 numbers of Internship offers across different sectors of the industry. Major recruiters ranging from Investment Banks to Analytics & Consulting, Automobile to Heavy Engineering and Infrastructure, IT Product to IT Services visited the campus for placement.

47 companies have visited BIT Mesra for the first time this year and the recruiters who visited last year for the first time have continued this year and the process yielded satisfactory results. Several meritorious students have received multiple offers.

The B.E./ B.Tech. students of Mesra Campus with a total batch strength of 679 and a total of 625 eligible students, received a total of 397 offers and 379 students have already been placed. Considering the percentage placement of eligible students, 75% students from B.E./ B.Tech.  Computer Science, 61% from B.E./ B.Tech.  Electronics & Communication & 84% from B.E./ B.Tech.  Information Technology, 62% of the B.E./ B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering, 44% of B.E./ B.Tech. Production Engineering and 71% of B.E./ B.Tech.  Electrical Engineering students got offers from different sectors. Likewise, 64%, 28%, 29% and 17% of students from Chemical, Chemical & Polymer, Civil and Bio-Engineering respectively have got placed.  

Industry and Alumni Relations

The institute organizes alumni reunion for different batches in the campus. The Golden Jubilee Reunion of Batch 1969 was held on 16th November 2019 and the Alumni Meet of 1977 Batch was organized on 21st December 2019. There onwards, owing to pandemic physical meet have not been possible, however we have been regularly interacting with our esteemed alumni through virtual mode.

Alumni portal www.alumni.bitmesra.ac.in which was launched in February 2020 have got very good response. This platform offers amazing features that enables alumni to stay connected with their college and friends as well as explore professional opportunities. Presently, the institute has its own data bank of about 40000+ registered alumni in the portal.

The institute have also registered alumni association in the name of BITMAA (Birla Institute of Technology Mesra Alumni Association) to strengthen the relation and acting as an apex body for alumni engagement and outreach. All the chapters across the globe are having their representations in BITMAA.

Students of undergraduate engineering program (6th Semester) are sent to reputed US universities during the summers under the Immersive Summer Research Experience (ISRE) program. In 2019, seventeen (15) students were sent in institutes like Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh and Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. For the last two years, because of the pandemic, the programme has been offered online and 2 students in 2020 and 10 students in 2021 got benefitted through the same.

With the support of our alumni, our institute has initiated the process of setting up a Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Water Infrastructure Management in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the institute. The institute is supported by alumni in Placement and Internship activities. Webinars with distinguished Alumni and Experts in various domains in Industry / Academics for faculty and students is organised from time to time.

Currently, the alumni association across the world have come forward to support the students at the institute by offering mentorship in their expertise. This mentorship is being offered by our esteemed alumni across the globe who are well settled in academia or industry, to train the students and make them industry ready.

Annual Industry Academia Symposium is organized with experts from Industry and academics with students to address employment and employability enhancement related issues. Academic and Research Collaboration with industry and technical institutes in India and abroad is also arranged by the institute.

The Institute has comprehensive facilities for outdoor sports and games. BIT hosts several extracurricular activities, necessary for overall healthy development of young mind. It has a beautiful sports complex with a modern stadium for track courts and field events. Well-equipped gymnasiums with modern multi-gym facilities are available. Further, a spacious new indoor badminton stadium, fine grounds and courts for football, hockey, cricket, kabaddi, kho-kho, basketball, tennis, volleyball, badminton, etc. are available. In addition, we have a well trained coach and guide to support and encourage sports activities for the students.

There are large number of Student Societies and Clubs, which supports students to nurture their hobbies and other creative talents for relaxation and entertainment. These Societies and Clubs include:

Dramatics Society, UNESCO Club, News and Publication Society (NAPS), Bhartiya Sahitya Parishad (BSP), Highlanders Adventure Club (HAC), Amateur Radio Society (ARS), Music Club, Fine Arts Society, Photographic Society, Students Chapter of the Institute of Engineers (IE), Students Chapter of IEEE, Students Chapter of IEE, SPIC-MACAY, Nature Club, Audio Visual Educational Club (AVEC) and Indian Association of College Going Scientists (IACGS)

Drama competitions, music competitions and annual student festivals (ANKUR, BITOTSAV), are conducted on a regular basis. Several traditional festivals like Saraswati Puja and Viswakarma Puja are also celebrated with great devotion on campus. The students participate and organize "Guru ka Langar" yearly on the occasion of the birthday of Guru Govind Singh.

 The various Institute’s teams have regularly participate on several student festivals and competitions across all over the country, including those held at IT-BHU, various IIT’s, BITS Pilani, ISM Dhanbad, Rotary International, etc. BIT students were always appreciated and noticed by the national organizing society from their credible performance and they bagged several awards in past on various events including music, drama, fine arts, literary etc.

 The Institute has hosted various Inter-University meets and tournaments at the National and Zonal levels in athletics, tennis, basketball, badminton, volleyball, football and hockey. The Institute’s teams also visit other Universities to participate in such tournaments. It is worth mentioning that our students have won laurels at national and International events too.

Birla Institute of Technology is located in a campus at Mesra, about 17 kilometers from Ranchi Railway Station, 25 kilometers from Ranchi Airport, 27 kilometers from Hatia Railway Station. Both Taxi and Autorickshaw are available from Ranchi/Hatia Railway/Bus Station/ Airport to BIT Mesra.
