About the Institute:

Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University was established as a State University vide U.P. State Government notification no. (10)/(865)/15/(75)(85)/64 dated 23 November 1973. It has a rare distinction of taking birth through a powerful popular movement during early seventies in last century. This movement symbolised the hopes and aspirations of the masses of the region of Garhwal for the development through the instrument of higher education. The people of this remote mountainous region agitated for opening a University at a small but historic semi rural town of Srinagar. It was an expression of the quest for empowering their future generations for overcoming endemic economic and social backwardness, geographic and environmental constrains, re-assertion of cultural identity and harnessing of the local natural and human resources for development.
 

The University has subsequently been upgraded to Central University by an Act of Parliament i.e. the Central Universities Act 2009. The University has thus been entrusted with new responsibilities to guide its students, faculty and all other stakeholders to achieve excellence in academics and strive for all round development of students. Since its inception, the University has shown commitment towards regional and community development which is inherent in its teaching courses, research agenda and other outreach and extension initiatives. The synergy derived from circumstances of its genesis still inspires and promotes its vision for future.

 

The University, nestled in the lap of Himalayan ranges in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, is a residential cum affiliating institution of higher learning. It has jurisdiction over seven districts of Garhwal region of Uttarakhand .

 

The University has three Campuses distantly located from each other -

  1. Birla Campus, Srinagar Garhwal with its extension at Chauras Campus,

  2. B. Gopal Reddy (BGR) Campus, Pauri

  3. Swami Ram Teerth (SRT) Campus, Badshahithaul, Tehri.

In all three campuses of the University the undergraduate, post-graduate and research programmes are being offered in different disciplines. Besides, conventional courses under different streams of studies the University has introduced some regionally relevant courses that are of importance for the region in particular and mountains in general.


All B.Tech. courses currently running at Chauras Campus under School of Engineering and Technology of university.


Fee Structure:
Tuition Fee Rs. 11,000/- (per semester)

Caution Money Rs. 5,000/- (one time)(refundable)

Other fee Rs. 3,000/- approx (yearly).

Rules For Change Branch:

A student may be allowed to change branch of his/ her choice, in the Second year. However, this will be allowed up to the limit if after this change at least 50% of the sanctioned seats remain filled in the branch where from the student wishes to change. After the declaration of the 1st semester result the School will announce for submitting choice of change of branch from the students. The branch change may be allowed on the basis of the merit of the 1st semester result, and in case of tie, on the basis of JEE (main) merit.  

Facilities:

Hostel Accommodation

A number of boys and girls hostels are available to students in its campuses. Admissions in these hostels are done on the merit basis.

Medical Facilities

Medical aids are also provided to the students and employees under the supervision of a qualified medical officer.

 

Library Services

The University has a well endowed lending library system consisting of a network of departmental and campus libraries buttressed by a Central library. The Engineering departments too, have their departmental library catering to the needs of the engineering students. These libraries are furnished with subject books and reference books, e-journals, e-books. Infilibnet etc

Gymnasium

There is gym facility in the Chauras campus for the students. 

Auditorium

A huge Swami Manmanthan auditorium is situated at Chauras Campus which has a seating capacity of 800 persons to conduct big events like seminars, workshops and cultural functions, etc.

The hostels at HNB Garhwal University provide comfortable accommodation. They are much more than a place to eat and sleep, they have several sports and recreational facilities as well.

Financial Assistance:

Necessary assistance to meet out the fee and other relevant expenses, is granted by the Government of India, through the social welfare department of the state government(s) to the eligible candidates of weaker sections. Some scholarships are granted to the bonafide students belonging to SC/ST/OBC category, whose family annual income does not exceed Rs. 2,50,000/- in case of SC/ST applicants, and Rs. 1,00,000/- in case of OBC category applicants. Out of the Poor Boys’ Fund, financial assistance to BPL students proportionate to the number of applicants and the total funds available during an academic session, is also provided

Training & Placement:

The University has a Career Guidance Cell which looks after the placement and personality development of the students of the University. B.Tech. students have to go through training in the Public and Private Sector industries.

Students also send for various off campus campus drives through college contacts. Campus selection percentage for batch 2018-19 was around 75%.

Industry And Alumni Relations:

Many of the alumni from the School are placed in Central Government, State Government Departments, Nationalized and Private Banks, Research Institutes, renowned Educational Institutes and in Private Sectors. The School has healthy relations with its alumni and interacts with them by organizing Alumni Meet, and through e-media, social media, etc. The students and faculty are benefited by such meets and interactions. HNBGU has a large students base which is also connected through various email groups and social media groups which helps students to get groomed for industry and also as a result getting a job


Recreational/Extra Curricular activities:

Adequate opportunities are accessible for overall development of students through co-curricular and constructive activities. For this purpose various councils and programs are accessible to the students.

Sports

The University focuses strongly on the promotion of games and sports. To this end a Sports Council has been constituted. The Council makes special efforts for promoting students’ interest in sports, encouraging students to participate in sports. The Council regularly organizes Inter Faculty and Inter Collegiate level sports meet every year.

Cultural Activities

The Cultural Council of the University along with the Students’ Welfare Board shoulder the responsibility of organizing inter Faculty, inter Collegiate and inter University cultural and literary activities, competitions and functions.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

NCC training is being imparted to students in the campus of the University. Students studying in under graduate classes may join NCC and undergo a two year training programme.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

Units of National Service Scheme have been organized in the University for motivating the students to participate in social works. Students registering in the National Service Scheme have to participate in its activities for 2 years for obtaining the NSS certificate.

Technical Festival

The students organize a Tech Fest every year with the assistance of the faculty. Various technical and cultural competitions are held during the festival. 

Location and Accessibility:

Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, at a distance of 130 km, from Srinagar (Garhwal) and Rishikesh railway station,  at a distance of 108 km from Srinagar (Garhwal). Delhi is 350 km (approx) from Srinagar (Garhwal).

Srinagar’s nearest railway station Rishikesh is well connected by trains from all major cities like Delhi, Mumbai etc. There are lots of buses available from ISBT, Kashmere Gate in New Delhi to Srinagar (Garhwal) via Haridwar/Rishikesh. They include AC, Delux, Volvo, and ordinary Uttarakhand State buses to nearest destination Haridwar and Rishikesh. From Dehradun bus, taxi services are available to Rishikesh-Srinagar (Garhwal). The total journey can take anywhere between 6 to 7 hours from Delhi to Rishikesh and around 3 hours from Rishikesh to Srinagar (Garhwal).

School of Engineering and Technology is situated at Chauras Campus of University which is an extension of Srinagar main campus and around 5 km from Srinagar.
