About the Institute:

Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh having its roots in Lahore, has been the foremost institution of higher technical education in the northern part of the country since independence. The institute has immensely contributed to the nation building by providing intellect talent possessing excellent analytical, design, practical and managerial skills.

Our students have probed into all sectors be it government, private or public to serve the country in various capacities. The institute has a flexible and industry oriented academic curricula for UG education on IIT pattern. The key emphasis is on engagement of students with the industry through six months internship, expert lectures during industry week in each semester, projects on industry based problems and many more.

The institute has signed MOUs with many industries, international universities to conduct joint research in cutting edge technologies. The academic practices of the institute are also similar to IIT, e.g. the academic curriculum is based on Choice Based Credit System with flexibility in choice of electives, inclusion of minor and major specializations, inclusion of MOOCs, credit transfer scheme, industrial internship and industrial visits, proper emphasis on basic and engineering sciences, humanities, management, communication skills, ethics and value systems courses and also co-curricular activities. The institute puts tremendous emphasis on student learning, creation of a conducive learning environment, faculty and staff upgradation, research and development, development of entrepreneurship skills, industry interaction and alumni networking. The institute also has three centres of excellence namely, Cyber Security Research Centre, Centre for Total Quality Management and the Centre of Excellence in Industrial and Product Design which are involved in R & D activities in their respective domains.

Currently, the institute is running 8 UG and 12 PG programmes in Engineering and Technology, and also PhD programmes in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities and Management. The current student strength across all courses is about 3000. The admissions to UG programmes are through national level JEE (Mains) test and to PG and PhD programmes through national level GATE examination. Admission to PG programmes also is being done through Centralized Counselling for M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan (CCMT).

Campus and Location

The institute campus is situated in Sector-12 at the northern end of Chandigarh and extends over an area of 149 acres of land situated close to the beautiful Shivalik Hills. The Campus is 9 km from the Chandigarh Railway Station and 8 km from the main Bus Stand, and about 20 km from the International Airport. The institute has spacious playgrounds, tennis courts, squash courts, swimming pool, gymnasium and a student centre. Banking facilities with nationally connected ATMs along with a computerized post office are available. Adequate hostel facilities for both boys and girls are available on the institute campus.

Fee to be paid by candidates allotted B.Tech. seat in PEC are as follows:-

Rules For Change Branch:
The students shall normally pursue the respective B.Tech. programmes allocated to them at the time of admission. However, the Senate may permit a limited number of academically meritorious students, as assessed by their performance in the Institute at the end of first year, to change their branch as per approved institute guidelines
Student Life at Institute:

For the all round development of the students, the institute provides a host of various students activities. These activities range from sports, personal-hobbies to technical interests. The students are encouraged to become the member of these bodies to help broaden their skills and horizons. These student bodies not only help the students explore their hidden talent but also help in areas such as personality development and inculcating in the students the spirit of organization by providing them with a platform for hosting their talents.

The focus of these technical societies primarily is to help the students gain practical as well as theoretical technical knowledge. Students are provided with an opportunity to implement what they learn in their respective class rooms. The different technical societies are Aerospace Technical Society (ATS)_American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)_Indian Institute of Metals (IIM)_Astronomy and Space Physics Society (ASPS)_Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE)_The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)_Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) _Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME)_Solar Energy Society of India (SESI)_Robotics Society

Other than these we have the annual techno-cultural fest, PECfest, where different technical societies and cultural clubs organize their respective events.

All technical societies are headed by their respective Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons, who lead the students in organising and participating in various activities. The Chief Technical Secretary and the Joint Chief Technical Secretary oversee the working of all club efforts, as well as host and help in organizing the multi club events, ranging from the Orientation, Engineers Day, Republic Day to Annual Honors Ceremony.

Career Development & Guidance Centre offers all round Career Solution to the students. The Centre guides students to decide and pursue their dream careers in different sectors. The whole placement process is organized and executed by this centre. Services and facilities offered by the Career Development & Guidance Centre include the following:-

Industry And Alumni Relations:
Alumni of  Punjab Engineering College, are the institute's most cherished possessions. Settled all across the world, they are serving the human society as engineers, technologists, managers, entrepreneurs and much more. The institute takes immense pride in their achievements and commendable contributions to the society. With the aim of strengthening its bond with the alumni, creating opportunities for the alumni to contribute to the Institute's development, managing their initiatives for the overall growth as well as providing support to them in all ways possible, the institute has set up an Alumni Affairs Office.

PEC, Chandigarh has signed various MOUs with the Government of India, Institutional bodies and Corporates.
These have been signed with the prime objective of undertaking Research & Development in the core areas of Metals & Materials, Geo Informatics, Disaster Management, Cyber Security, Super Computing, Software Engineering, Development of designs and techniques, Applied Research etc.
Such collaborations not only facilitate Academic Research but also simultaneously provide new avenues for advancement of knowledge, sharing industry experience and spread awareness among young minds through mentoring and training of Faculty and students, exchange of students and faculty for research work and projects, Internships & workshop programmes, Guest lectures etc.

Students have their own hobby clubs and societies .The focus of these clubs primarily is to help the students explore their hidden talent in the respective fields be it art, photography, music, dramatics etc. The different clubs are-

Other than these we have annual events PECFest and the Annual Honours Ceremony organised by all respective clubs.

The Annual Honours Ceremony is held at the end of every academic year, as a testimony to the brightest performers in the various activities. The top 10% of the entire batch is selected through a rigorous selection process, and are awarded the much coveted Institute Colours at a glittering ceremony.
