About Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology, Malda

Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology (GKCIET), Malda, West Bengal was established in 2010 by Ministry of Education (formerly Ministry of Human Resource Development), Govt. of India. The Institute is located at Malda, West Bengal with the bordering districts of Bihar, Jharkhand and North Eastern states. Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology (GKCIET), Malda was established with the objective to create a multi-layered inter disciplinary and inter-sectorial efficient professional technical manpower to act as an international podium for the development and transfer of technical competence in academics. Apart from imparting formal technical education at under graduate level, GKCIET is committed to provide best possible technical skills at grass route level and to cater to the specific needs of women, school dropouts and other disadvantaged sections of society by organizing a large no of short/long term skills orientation programs for economic upliftment and inclusive growth of society. It was formulated that the institute, besides catering to the needs of formal education would undertake the non-formal education to prepare the skilled and qualified manpower for self-employment. Further, the institute would take up a strategic research and development activities which along with entrepreneurship will help in extending the efforts of the institute in imparting education to the unemployed and working population by updating and upgrading their technical skills. GKCIET is devoted to provide leadership, organizational expertise, technical assistance and the other resources required to meet the demands.

Programs offered at GKCIET, Malda

1. B. Tech (4 Years Duration) under the MAKAUT, West Bengal 

 50% of the approved intake shall be filled up by the candidates of West Bengal through West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) Board.

 25% of the approved intake shall be filled up by the eligible candidates of North-East (NE) states, i.e., Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland and Sikkim through Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – JoSAA/CSAB

25% of the approved intake shall be filled up by the eligible candidates from other states excluding West Bengal and NE states through Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-JoSAA/CSAB

Eligibility Qualification: Class X+2 pass / equivalent examination along with other essential criteria.


2. Diploma (3 Years Duration) under the WBSCT&VE&SD, Kolkata

50% of the approved intake shall be filled up by the candidates of West Bengal through JEXPO conducted by the WBSCT&VE&SD, Kolkata

50% of the approved intake shall be filled up by the candidates from other states excluding West Bengal through a separate entrance test (GKCIET Entrance Test/GET) conducted by Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology (GKCIET), Malda.

Eligibility Qualification: Matric (10th Std.) pass/equivalent examination along with other essential criteria.


3. Skill Development Programs (TVET/PMKVY-TI etc.)

 Direct admission following by the notice to be  issued by GKCIET, Malda

  Eligibility Qualification: Level-wise as per NSQF.

N. B.: The hostel facility inside campus of the Institute is under construction and hence, Institute is unable to provide such facility at present. However, construction is expected to be completed by December 2021. In case of girls’ students, a 50 seated hostel facility is available, that to be allotted ‘First Come First Served’ basis. Accordingly, additional hostel fee will be collected by the Institute in physical presence of the students.

Student Life at Institute:
Student life at GKCIET

The GKCIET aims to make students disciplined, aware of environment, and a strong human being. Accordingly, the institute provides a pleasant academic environment in a sprawling area of about 101 acres of land at Narayanpur, Malda with Administrative Block, 4 separate Academic Blocks, Workshops, and Library facilities, Canteen, Student Amenities and Common Rooms, etc.  The institute provides buses for local transport from Malda City to the Main Campus also. The class starts usually at 9:00 AM and continues till 5:30 PM. Students may celebrate and decorate this institute with their full participation during stay at the Institute. Faculties also extend their hand in teaching-learning process, share experiences of academic issues to the students in growing them into new generation/digital life on completion of their courses. Students also participate in different sports (Inter or Intra) and other co-curricular activities of the Institute. However, construction of hostels and staff quarters on campus is in progress, after completion of which campus will become fully residential- a beautiful place.

Training & Placement:

Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology, Malda has a Training & Placement Section leading by the senior faculty members of the Institute. This Section is developed mainly to encourage students to participate in internships, industrial training/visit at various industries of the country, and aims to communicate with the industry and other corporate sectors for placement of graduating students. This section facilitates students for developing themselves as per the need of industry and to acquire knowledge to project themselves as entrepreneurs. It is to help students to place in different esteemed companies through on-campus or off-campus and make them self-dependent. 

However, the 1st B.Tech batch (4-year duration) will pass out in the A.Y. 2022-23. Meanwhile, 19 of the 1st batch Diploma students (total students: 48) who just passed out in September 2021 have received on-campus placement offers till date.   

Industry And Alumni Relations:

The 1st B.Tech batch (4-year duration) of the Institute will pass out in the academic year of 2022-23 and the 1st Diploma batch (3-year duration) of the Institute will pass out in the academic year of 2021-22. This institute aims in developing the industry-academia relation through its faculty members, training and placement cell, and alumni of the Institute also.        

Recreational/Extra Curricular activities:

For this purpose, different committees/clubs have been constituted for coordinating and supervising student related activities at Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology, Malda from time to time includes various co-curricular activities such as Rabindra Jayanti, National Language Day, Sports, Swachha Bharat Abhiyan, Fit India Run etc. These activities are organized by the members of all Committees/Clubs in coordination with students. 

Few of the major recreation and extra-curricular activities are:

Organizing workshops/webinars to encourage and motivate students towards enhancing academic excellence, organizing blood donation camp to fulfill social commitment, celebrate the Institute Foundation Day, organizing Fresher’s Welcome and Induction Program, organizing International Yoga Day- Programs as per the MHRD direction, organizing sports, tech fests, etc.

Students are encouraged to attend different leadership talks by the eminent personalities organized/ delivered online as per AICTE/MHRD/other organizations.

The institute is located at Narayanpur, Malda, and being developed in a sprawling area of about 101 acres of land at a distance of about 10 km from Malda Town railway station and 0.7 km from the 34 No National Highway.

Malda is well connected to all the important cities of India via rail network. Malda Town railway station is  on the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri line under Malda Railway Division.

Bus service available from Dharmatala (Kolkata)or Esplanade (Kolkata) for Siliguri / Malda/ Balurghat / Raiganj.

Nearest domestic airport is Bagdogra, Siliguri while the nearest International Airport is at Kolkata. 

GKCIET provides bus service to students for local transport from Malda city to GKCIET Main Campus at Narayanpur, Malda
